« on: Monday 30 April 18 06:54 BST (UK)  »
Hi there
Could someone explain the following please? I'm unsure about actually where the bap took place. Was it Jarrow or Heworth as they are not the same place as far as Google maps has them

Baptisms, South Shields District - Record Number: 646422.0
Location: Jarrow
Church: St. Paul
Denomination: Anglican
16 Jul 1780 Margaret Anderson, daughter of Thomas Anderson, baptized at Heworth

Many thanks

Durham / Cold Knuckle near Quarrington
« on: Thursday 26 April 18 07:06 BST (UK)  »
Have the above place/town/area as birthplace for my Isabella MUSGRAVE in 1855. Have searched many maps etc and unable to find a reference. Isabella's father was a miner - was this the name of a mine perhaps? Have looked at some of the mining history/museum sites without luck. I think it may be an old mine - would that be entered as the place of birth or might there be some houses?

If anyone has some information, possibly direct me to a 1855 map, it would be great, just that it is an interesting name and must be derived from something!
Many thanks

Durham / Birth year Robert MUSGRAVE Durham ? 1832 or 1839
« on: Thursday 26 April 18 06:49 BST (UK)  »

I wonder if anyone can help please? I am looking at Robert and wondering if the transcription via An... is correct with bap 6 Jan 1839 at Stockton on Tees Holy Trinity. Son of Robert MUSGRAVE and Phoebe (various sp) HOLT

Another source (Durham Records Online) says St Thomas' Stockton 1832. This date gels with his age on his MC and DC but can only find it mentioned there and not on an PPV sites. Can understand he may be bap 7yrs after birth but would like to find a a parish register transcription/image if possible

Many thanks for your time

Family History Programs, Tree Organisation, Presentation / Timelines
« on: Wednesday 06 September 17 09:40 BST (UK)  »
Hi there
Have read some of the wonderful advice (there is so much advice on Rootschat that I can use a little later on) - am writing a "story" of my GGGrandfather for my and some family consumption - so not too academic but I'd like to to read well, be correct factually but also write a bit of social history

To help me organise my information to date I'd like to draw up a timeline and put dates to events. Nothing very flash - am initially just after a horizontal line with vertical lines coming from it that I can type in (along the vertical line) the dates and events. Can anyone suggest something really easy to draw up and use please? I use FTM but don't want to draw up complex bits just yet

Something simple for me if you have any ideas please?
Many thanks

Durham / Birtley Fell hotel 1782
« on: Thursday 10 August 17 07:19 BST (UK)  »
Hi there
Seems the area has changed since late 18C but does anyone know of the area and whether there was a hotel? Have an ancestor whose father was noted as hotelkeeper, she was bap in Chester Le  Street but parents from Birtley Fell and he was an hotelkeeper.

The name is Miller but I haven't found anything saying there was even a village there let alone an hotel. Seems the area is a suburb now

Any locals know?
Many thanks

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Handwriting help please
« on: Wednesday 14 June 17 04:38 BST (UK)  »
Hi there
Have the attached image in 1797 of:
"April 27 Peter and Elizabeth son and daughter of Roger and Joan his wife"

Could you confirm it does say Peter and what might the words, written smaller, above "& Joan" be please?

I ma assuming they were twins but possibly just 2 children bap together. Any opinions on that possibility?
Many thanks as usual
