Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / 1871 profession/occupation
« on: Wednesday 10 February 16 16:40 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Rootschatters,

Please can you help with these two professions/occupations - from the 1871 census?

I think the first is "Seamstress", but the second...? Something a 15-year-old girl would do.

Thanks,
Vicky

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Unclear birthplace
« on: Thursday 12 February 15 19:58 GMT (UK)  »
Me again. :)

Any ideas? The family are living in London and, typically, the others on the page are from all over the place, so that doesn't help narrow it down. The first is "Herts, Rickmansworth" and the last, "Surrey, Bermondsey". I'll be damned if I can figure out the one in the middle.

Thanking you in advance,
Vicky

Hello,

Can anyone help with the middle one, please ("XXXX Maker")? Thinking "Dressmaker"...

Many thanks,
Vicky

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Another unreadable occupation...
« on: Sunday 21 March 10 18:06 GMT (UK)  »
"Servant"
"Candle Maker"

...and I've no idea what the last one is, but it's something suitable for a young lady, if that helps.

Thanks!

Gloucestershire / Bristol FLYNGs
« on: Wednesday 23 July 08 21:09 BST (UK)  »
Just wondering if anyone's got any FLYNGs in their tree.

I always thought it was FLYNN, but it's not.

FLYNG is much more fun. ;)

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / CHANDLER 1871 census - Bristol
« on: Sunday 13 August 06 18:36 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

Can I be really cheeky and ask if anyone would be willing to look for the following family on the 1871 census, please?

James Samson Chandler, HEAD, born 1838-ish
Matilda Chandler (formerly Roe), WIFE, born 1843-ish

I don't expect there to be any children, but there might be a very young Matilda, born 1871.

They were married in 1870 (Clifton, 6a, p316).

I'd love to find out more about this family.

Interestingly, it seems that two Barrington brothers married two Chandler sisters (little Matilda and the next child, Florence). :)

With many thanks in advance,
Vicky

Hi,

I wonder if anyone could find Thomas Barrington, born 1896, on the 1901 census for me, please?

I need to know the names of his parents.

With sincere thanks in advance,
Vicky

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / BARRINGTON 1901 census - Hampstead
« on: Saturday 12 August 06 18:08 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I'm looking for Virginie Barrington. She's one of my many possible (Gloucestershire) Barrington connections and I'm going through them all one-at-a-time to see who belongs to who.

All I know about Virginie is that she was a dressmaker, was born c 1877 and was married in Bristol in 1903, but it seems she was in Hampstead in 1901. I'd love to know who she was with, if possible.

Thanking you sincerely in advance,
Vicky
