Monmouthshire / 1861 census Llanthewy Skirrid - help needed please
« on: Wednesday 13 March 19 08:46 GMT (UK)  »
I don't know if I am losing the plot slowly or if this was missed from the 1861.

I have William Morgan b.c. 1806 living at Pys coch, Typoch and various versions of the hamlet/farm/cottage ( not entirely sure which) in 41, 51, 71 and 81 with his wife Martha and various children. For some reason I cannot locate them on the 61. I have no idea which sub district I need to be looking for.

Any help pointing me in the right direction would be hugely appreciated. TIA

Monmouthshire / Help needed - placename - pys coch?
« on: Tuesday 19 February 19 12:06 GMT (UK)  »
I am really hoping someone can help me with this place name as I have been going round in circles for almost 15 years trying to locate these particular Morgans.

Timothy was my GGG grandfather who married Hannah Lott in Abergavenny. Parents Thomas Morgan and Mary Dew. He was born in Abergavenny and baptised in the parish of Llandewy-Skirrid. He can be found on further census records in Sirhowy before moving with his family to Pontycymmer.

I have never been able to find a marriage for his parents so I am hoping that going back over possible records I can find clues.

TIA!

I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this regiment? It appears on a medal card for a possible relative I am researching but I can't seem to find anything about them doing Google searches. If someone could point me in the right direction I would most grateful. TIA.

London and Middlesex / The Alexandra - Clapham

Hi, I was wondering if anyone had any idea where I can find comprehensive history details on this building, particularly around 1921. I have found this mentioned in a book that I am using to research some possible Greek relatives and I have found who was the licensee in the early 1900's but I can't be sure if that was the owner or not. Any clues would be great, TIA.

Europe / French mystery 1990
« on: Friday 17 July 15 19:52 BST (UK)  »
Hi all, I am doing some research for a friend on her deceased Father who passed away in France in 1990 whilst working away. To date neither of us have been able to locate an entry for a death in either the UK or in France but we do know that he was buried in the UK after he was repatriated. I am wondering if anyone could please point us in the direction of where we could find some information as the circumstances surrounding his death are obscure and we have been trying to find French newspaper archives for Paris round about this time in the hope that there may be a story there but so far no luck either. I haven't researched foreign deaths before so maybe there is something I need to be doing which I haven't already?

Thanks in advance for any pointers on where to look.

World War One / Medal card
« on: Wednesday 24 December 14 12:37 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I am hoping someone can help me decipher the codes on a medal card to gain some information about my Great Grandfather who served in the Welsh Regiment and then later the Royal engineers. We have the medals and I paid for a copy of the medal card but to me it's all jargon. Any help would be appreciated to see if there is a way of telling how he earned them.

I am assuming that the first part of the comments refers to the "clasp and rose" he received?

London and Middlesex / Meaning of Infirmary
« on: Monday 24 November 14 10:24 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I was wondering if anyone had researched infirmaries in London post WW1 around the 1920's era. I have some maternity records that state the patient was "discharged to infirmary" from Middlesex maternity Hospital in 1922 on the same day that she had a baby. Could this mean workhouse, hospital or something else? Google is not being very helpful and I have been firing emails off to all of the archives to see who holds which records but with such a vague statement I am unsure where to look next. TIA for any help offered.

The Common Room / Birth registration Time frames
« on: Wednesday 12 November 14 08:05 GMT (UK)  »
Good morning!

I was wondering if anyone has any information on the registration process in 1922 for births. Quite specifically, I have a birth that was registered 6 months after the birth in London in 1922 and this seems a rather long time. Were there any specific laws around this time for registering births within a certain amount of time?

TIA
