The Common Room / Understanding a Marriage Settlement
« on: Tuesday 18 October 22 01:51 BST (UK)  »
Hello all!

I'm trying to get my head around a marriage settlement dated 1707.

From what I can make out the agreement between two parties. The first party consists of John Donaldson Snr (father of groom) Edward Clements of Clements Hill (Edward is related to my own family but I dont understand his involvement here) and Jo Donaldson

The Second Party seems to be Edward Stafford, Henry Maxwell, James Butler (Father of Bride to be Anne Butler)

Third Party
John Donaldson Jnr (Groom) Anne Butler (Bride)

If anyone can throw any light on why there are so many people involved I would love to understand better what is happening.

Many thanks,

Donna

Antrim / Clements Family Antrim - Exchequer Bill Book
« on: Monday 19 September 22 16:03 BST (UK)  »
Hi all!

Just wondering if anyone can help me decipher this note on the Exchequer book next to my ancestor Dalway Clements. (He died in 1721 and this note is in a 1722 entry so I was wondering if it was connected to this but couldn't make it out).

Also any information on the Exchequer Bill Book and what it is about so I have some context would be fantastic.

Thank you!

Antrim / Ballynure Old Graveyard - Records?
« on: Friday 08 July 22 00:47 BST (UK)  »
Hello all,

I am visiting Ballynure Graveyard to see the stones I know are there of the Clements family of Clements Hill.

I've been trying to find if the records for the old church (I believe long since gone) still exist anywhere?

I am trying to pin down information on my ancestor Andrew Clements of Clements Hill who I believe dies 1718 and is referenced in book -The history and antiquities of the county of the town of Carrickfergus, etc By Samuel MACSKIMIN.

Many thanks,

Donna

Tyrone / Patrick Mackle Ballymaguigan ... help solving a riddle needed.
« on: Tuesday 17 February 15 03:56 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,

I'm hoping some fresh ideas might give me an insight on this one so here goes.

In my direct line is a Mary Lee who in 1921 marries a Thomas James Clements in Magherafelt dist.
at their wedding an Aloysius Mckee stands witness.

Mary Lee is actually baptised twice as is her sister Rachel and brother John. Once in Derry in 1897 and then a couple of days later in Tyrone. In Derry she is baptised as Mary Lee with an unknown father, in Tyrone she is baptised as Mary Mackle with Patrick Mackle listed as her father. We know that this is the same child as the same set of events occur with her sister Rachel and brother John. Also on her Tyrone record a note is later made of her marriage to Thomas Clements tying it all nicely together.

Patrick Mackle is proving hard to pin down.

There is a Patrick Mackle boarding with a Patrick Mackle and Ellen Mackle in the 1901 census. Ellen's maiden name is MCKEE giving a possible link to Aloysius MCKEE who is the witness at the Wedding of Mary Lee and Thomas Clements.

Perhaps another option is that Patrick Mackle the husband of Ellen is also the father of the illegitimate children? Is this why they continue having children but never live together or marry?

Any insights and thoughts would be warmly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Donna

The Common Room / Hangman records?
« on: Monday 02 February 15 13:50 GMT (UK)  »
I have come across a passed down story regarding my g.g.g.Grandfather Alfred Wellings that he was employed as a hangman and was wondering if anyone had any ideas of how I could look into this to see if it is a tall tale to keep children in line or if it has some grain of truth in it? :)

Alfred was born 1853 at Ellerdine Heath in Shropshire.

In the 1871 Census he is listed at living at Chell occupation Collier.

In 1871 he marries an Ann Pointon at St Burslem.

and in 1881 he is living in Rainhill, Lancashire.

Any thoughts on how I could dig further into this story would be much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Donna

Shropshire / William Wellings Burial (Methodist)
« on: Monday 02 February 15 13:18 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,

Im trying to find a burial record for a William Wellings who lived in Ellerdine Heath.

I have found his Baptisim 1782 and marriage to Alice Bagley in 1844 in the Parish registers, but I can track down no burial. He is registered on the BDM as dying Shawbury 1860

William was a Methodist and I was wondering if it would have possibly been recorded elsewhere?

He is an original trustee of the Emanuel Chapel in Ellerdine and from the account books stored at Shropshire archives he seems to have been active in the physical building on the church.

Any thoughts on where to look would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Donna
