World War Two / james arthur clarke
« on: Monday 31 March 14 15:14 BST (UK)  »
hi i was hoping some one could help me , im trying to find details about my husbands grandfather . james arthur clarke  , i am told he was born in the uk , where i dont know was told sussex of suffolk were a possibility , on the LDS web site i found his marriage certificate  , it says he was born in 1906 and his father is named alfred ,,, i found the same marriage certificate some where else and there are different details it says he was 25 years old when he married lexie undine thurston in 1934 , that makes his birth date 1909  .
i have spoken to my husbands aunt and she says his birthday was 5th march , about 1908/9
i found a record  of him in the 1st battalion the buffs as a private  in the india north western frontier service date 1930/ 31 regimental no 6283789 . on a miliatry  medal and award roll,
on his wedding certificate it also says he is a private 1st btn buffs ,
he stayed in burma  with his wife who was born there , and worked for the forestry commission , although i am told he actually worked for a mining company ,
in 1942 i have found him in the burmese intelligence corps , i found some thing in the london gazette saying he was made a 2nd LT on the 6th dec 1942  under the heading army in burma reserve of officers emergency commissions .
i cant find any thing else until april 1945 when i find an obit notice for his wife lexie [ alexia ] and it mentions he is a capt in the burmese intelligence corps
my husbands aunt says they have a photo of him in a majors uniform , so i dont know if after 1945 he was made a major ?
the next trace i pick up of him is coming to fremantle west australia in 1948 on the gorgon with his mother in law and children .
ive spent months looking for information on him , i cant even find his death in bunbury WA i was told approx 1974 i have found a arthur james clarke for 1974 with a father  called alfred , but his birth is listed as abt 1912  dont know if his death certificate has his name the wrong way around ?
 any help would be appreciated
regards helen
