Hi all ... here's the two photos of an original photo of my great, great grandfather. It would probably have been taken anything up to 20 years before the one of Louisa that I just posted. And the two photos seem quite different in style,

To my un-informed eye, this photo of Robert has possibly been more 'fiddled with - read enhanced' when it was originally created.  It doesn't really seem very life-like to me. But check out that curl on his beard :)

If anyone wants to have a go with it, that would be lovely ... thanks ... Leend
PS Again, I'm not fussed about keeping the original frame

Hello ... I recently had an opportunity to take a photo of a professional photo of Louisa, my great-great grandmother.

Am posting two versions of the same photo, one with original plain wooden frame (but which is slanting plus I didn't get all the frame in ... sigh!). The other photo I'm posting is where I zoomed close to her face. Neither are very good photos and the glass caused reflections.  :-[

But I'm hoping someone might have a go at enhancing the photo. Would prefer the original wooden frame to disappear and perhaps someone might like to use another border on the enhanced photo and/or add in a little colouring ... or simply make it sepia.

I also took photos of an original of her husband, Robert Evans as well which I will post next. The two photos were not originally taken at the same time as he was quite a bit older than Louisa.

I appreciate whatever help can be provided and many thanks ... Leend

Here's another charming photo of baby Audrey though its in much worse condition than the previous one I've just posted. Can anyone help with improving this one as well.

Hello, can anyone pls give my photo of this little charmer a bit of a tidy up please and if its possible to do anything to mask or blur the visible background outside the very elaborate frame, that would be wonderful too ... while still keeping the original frame intact that is :)

Many thanks ... Leend

Hello again, I'm uncertain if the man in these three photos are all the same person, taken at different stages in their lifetime.

I am reasonably sure the first two are Albert (b 1905) but am wondering if the figure on the right (in front of the stone fence) might actually be of the generation before, e.g. possibly his father (1876-1944).

Would love to know if this is the case so am hoping the generous folk who have a sharp eye for details in determining dating and seeing family resemblances/clothing etc might take a look. Have my fingers crossed too that my collating the three photos like this is adequate for this purpose.

Many thanks ... Leend

Hello, this other house is ‘The Cottage’ Cavangarden, Co Donegal and it seems that Eliz’s father moved there sometime in the 1930s/40s (he would have been quite old then I expect). But that is all we know and this is another scanned version of a photocopy of a photo. Sigh! :-[ :-[

So many thanks if anyone can improve it at all and thanks too for reading these snippits of the Hughes' family stories.

Regards ... Leend
PS I hope its ok that I'm posting all these photos one after the other, like this. I am rarely able to work on family history matters (and even more rarely on Rootschat) and couldn't remember if there was a limit you could post at the one time.  :-[ :-[ My apologies if I haven't followed the rules.

Hello, this photo has unfortunately been very ripped about and now has bits missing. It was with other photos that have come down the line from Eliz Hughes but all info about it has been lost in time.

Two women and a dog, most likely in front of the older woman's home. However it is a different house to the previous Hughes family home photo just posted (Ballanacarrick, Co Donegal). It may be that the two women are mother and daughter. Also these women may also have been in the previous Ballanacarrick home photo. The dog looks the same or at least the same breed. Perhaps the young women is either Violet or Edith (one of Eliz’s two sisters who went back to Ireland from Australia).

Not sure if much can be done with this photo but would love for someone to have a go. Also would anyone have an opinion as to the dating of this compared to the previous photo?

Thanks ... Leend

Hello again. Here's more photos on my husband’s Irish ancestors. This is his grandmother’s (Eliz) home as a child - Ballanacarrick, Co Donegal. Photo quality is poor and we have wondered about the people (very small) standing in front of the door. It seems there are three people (possibly all women) with one holding a baby … and not forgetting the dog.

A clean up of the whole photo would be great. And if anyone can also enlarge the people to make them a bit clearer (as a separate file), that would be wonderful too. Depending on who the people are (and especially who the baby might be) we think its unlikely the photo was taken before the 1940s but we welcome any suggestions about the possible date of the photo.

Also, we have pretty much lost touch with the Hughes family descendants in Ireland  :( so if anyone has any leads about this house in Ballanacarrick, please let me know.

Hello folks once again  :)
And here's bit more of Eliz's story. She arrived in Australia in 1926 and lived here til she died in 1985, aged 80. Her photo here was probably taken in her garden in Brisbane during 1960/70s. There was only an old negative which I’ve been able to scan to get this photo (very much as a amateur). But it means the photo itself probably hasn’t been seen for decades. As soon as my husband saw it, he remembered that her little dog was called ‘Minka’.  :) :)

The second photo is an older man who could be Albert in later years but we are unsure about that. I have already posted photos of Albert as a young man in Parts 1 and 2 of the ‘Hughes Family in Ireland' thread if you care to have a look back.

Any improvements to either photo would be lovely and if anyone has any thoughts about the dating of "Albert's" photo that would be helpful. We have wondered if this man might be of the generation before, e.g. Eliz’s (and Albert's and the other's father)?

Thanks in anticipation to all the wonderful Rootschat restorers. We appreciate you efforts, expertise and your many kindnesses to so many different people across the world.

Regards .. Leend
