Australia / Victoria marriage record 1887
« on: Wednesday 10 January 18 22:27 GMT (UK)  »
Please could someone tell me what information there would be on the certificate for a marriage in 1887 in Victoria and in particular if the divorce of one party would be mentioned.

Thanks in advance for any help.

World War One / Gazette entry for Charles Sydney POWELL
« on: Sunday 07 January 18 16:51 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find the Gazette entry for Charles Sydney POWELL who was a lieutenant in the Royal Field Artillery according to his medal roll index card and his medal roll entry, both of which I have.  I have found the entries in the London Gazette for his nomination as 2nd lieutenant in the Cameron Highlanders - 13 April 1915 – and in the Royal Field Artillery, London Brigade - 23 November 1915 – but cannot find his nomination as lieutenant.

Any help or advice received with grateful thanks.

London and Middlesex / Death of Raoul Jules BOUVIER
« on: Tuesday 24 October 17 16:02 BST (UK)  »
Following on from my original post and thread on the Yorkshire (West Riding) forum, I am now hoping to find out more about the death of Raoul Jules BOUVIER who according to family information was fatally stabbed late at night as he was crossing Hyde Park in London going to the bank with the day’s takings of the big London hotel where he was working.

This would have occurred round about 1930.  However, there is no sign of an entry in the death indexes nor have I been able to find a newspaper report.  Any ideas as to possible sources of further information would be very welcome.  I hope to visit London in the not too distant future, so any such sources don’t have to be on line.

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Seeking death of Raoul Jules BOUVIER
« on: Sunday 19 February 17 17:30 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to help a fellow researcher here in France fin the death of her great-grandfather, possibly in the UK.

Here is what she knows :

Raoul Jules BOUVIER was born 22 Junz 1864 Rochefort (Charente-Maritime) to Jules  and Alphonsine Marie née AURIOUX.  He married Marie Julia MERCIER 6 Auigust 1892 at Fitz-James (Oise) and they divorced 28 November 1906.  He was a cook/chef.

In March 1901 he went to England following the death of his employer in Paris and worked for Mr Leonard D CUNCLIFFE, a merchant banker of Juniper Hill, Dorking, Surrey.

From documents provided at the time of the marriages of the children of his first marriage we also know that in 1914 he was living at 7 Cadogan Street, London. In 1920 he was living in London (no other details) and working as a head cook.  In 1922 he was in Forres, Scotland and in 1924 was working at the Clarendon Hotel, Oxford.

I found a second marriage at Doncaster Register Office on 21 February 1917 to Nellie HOPKIN aged 23 daughter of Henry HOPKIN, coal miner, residence of both parties 102 Furlong Road, Bolton-on-Dearne.
