Westmorland Lookup Requests / Kendal record office lookup please
« on: Friday 30 January 15 10:20 GMT (UK)  »
According to Familysearch, Emmanuel Theobalds Wilkinson was born to Mary Wilkinson and the baptism was registered at Kirkby Lonsdale. Christening date is given as 13 September 1794.  I have looked at the registers at Kendal but been unable to find this baptism.  Perhaps I am looking in the wrong place!  I wonder if someone more familiar with the records than I am would be kind enough to have a go at finding this baptism - it may break down a long-standing brick wall for me!  Is it possible that the baptism took place at one of the satellite churches?  I would be most grateful if someone could have a go for me - I live some distance from Kendal and I have had two fruitless journeys so for.  Many thanks

Lancashire / St Thomas' church Seaforth registers
« on: Sunday 06 April 14 16:24 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone know where the registers are for St Thomas' church, Seaforth (1880-1930). I would like to check the birth entries for some of my family.  I would guess in Liverpool, but I'm not sure.
Also the registers for St Luke's church, Great Crosby (1910 onwards). Thanks for help.

Graveyards and Gravestones / Flaybrick cemetery Birkenhead
« on: Sunday 06 April 14 16:18 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone know whether there is an online catalogue of individuals buried in Flaybrook cemetery, Bidston, Birkenhead?  I think that my ggrandfather, Robert Baird,(died 1920) and his wife, Elizabeth, (died 1945) may be buried there.  Any help gratefully received.

Family History Beginners Board / Farmer to teacher?
« on: Thursday 03 April 14 16:00 BST (UK)  »
I am mystified by the fact that my gggrandfather, George Sedgwick was a farmer at Gaythorn Hall near Asby, Westmorland from 1815 to 1825 (baptism of his children confirm this), was a farm labourer on the 1841 census (at Brunthwaite near Kendal, Westmorland) but in 1851 was newly widowed and staying with his daughter Ann Nelson at Lupton, Westmorland and is described as a schoolmaster.  He is also described as schoolmaster in Mannex's directory in 1851, living at Burneside, Kendal, Westmorland.  How possible is it that this is the same person, or have I made a mistake?  What qualifications were needed to be a schoolmaster in 1851?  Can anyone help?

Family History Beginners Board / Emmanuel Hutchinson of Leck - origins?
« on: Thursday 03 April 14 15:53 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone tell me where my ggggrandfather Emmanuel Theobald Hutchinson was born or baptised (around 1795 I think).  Married Mary Ellershaw at Tunstall in 1822, and lived all his life in Leck.  In all the censuses and gave his birthplace as Leck. Died in 1879.  In 1841 census I think he said that he was not born in Lancashire - perhaps Westmorland?  The only possibilities I have found on IGI are a) Emmanuel Hutchison (no n) 1802 in Renfrew (but the family names don't match) or b) a reference to a birth of the right date in Barbados.  Is this possible?  Can anyone help?  I would be most grateful for any help given.
