Norfolk / St Augustine’s Lodge, St Leonard’s Road, Norwich in 1945
« on: Sunday 09 February 20 11:20 GMT (UK)  »
Hello

I wonder if someone could help me, as I live in Herefordshire and have no knowledge of the Norfolk area.

My grandmother was stationed in Great Yarmouth during WW2, she was in the ATS.  She got pregnant by an American soldier (my mum).

My mum and I have sent off for her records and just had them back. According to the records,  when she was five months pregnant she had a “accident” that took her to the address in the title of my post in November 1945.

Would anyone know what kind of establishment this was at that time?  Not long after this she left the army and my mum was born in March 1946.

Thank you.

Gloucestershire / Longhope Cricket Club - Photos?
« on: Wednesday 24 April 19 20:28 BST (UK)  »
 :)

Hello there!

I was wondering if anyone would have any old photos of Longhope Cricket Club, especially around the early 1900's?

It turns out, a few of my ancestors played in that team with the surname "Constance"....I descend from Charley S Constance, he was my great grandfather.  His family owned the Steam Mills in the village.

Thank you!

Sophie Williams, nee Constance

Cornwall / Heron’s Creek, St Mawes 1930’s
« on: Tuesday 21 August 18 14:59 BST (UK)  »
Hello everyone

I’m Sophie and I live in Herefordshire.

My question is about my grandma, Kathleen Bick (DOB 07.06.16) who was a personal maid on the 1939 Census at a house in St Mawes called Heron’s Creek.

I know Kathleen worked for the Bird Family (as in the custard) and they holidayed in St Mawes so this makes
sense. On the Census, Elsie H Bird lives in the house and it describes her as widow of Geoffrey Bird (presumably deceased).  A Mr Harry and Mrs Violet Holmes live there too as well as the usual servants.

Does anyone know if this house still exists?  If it helps, other houses in the area were Uplands, Lawn Bank, Crossways, Polrath Point, Searigs etc etc.  Tredenham Road features too.

Would love to hear from anyone with any information

Regards

The Common Room / Birth registration quarters - a question
« on: Monday 24 July 17 09:16 BST (UK)  »
Hello

Wondering if anyone could help me please.

Is it possible a baby could be born beginning of June but birth could be in the Jul-Aug-Sep quarter if the birth wasn't registered until maybe end of June, beginning of July?

In other words I've found a possible birth of interest (long story)  but it's in the aforementioned quarter but my relative was born 6th June. I don't want to buy certificate if it turns out to be wrong date of birth.

Any help with this would be most appreciated.

Kind regards

Sophie  :)

Gloucestershire / Miss Annie Waters, The Shaws, Lea Bailey
« on: Sunday 23 April 17 18:21 BST (UK)  »
Hello  :)

I wonder if anyone remembers Annie Waters of Lea Bailey please?  She died in 1954 in Ross so appreciate a long time ago.  Her brother, David, was in Ross Public Assistance Institution for a reason we don't know and his wife, Alice, has taken to the grave.  Alice was my great grandmother and was living on her own in Ross while he went from one institution to another....  This is my last ditch attempt to find out why he was kicked out by Alice.  Annie was named as his next of kin on institution admission records for him, not Alice his wife  ???

Thanks in anticipation

Herefordshire / Where is their marriage record?
« on: Tuesday 14 March 17 19:17 GMT (UK)  »
Hello

I have a Brown family living in Much Marcle in the 1840s-50's. I've found lots out about them including their births and deaths and those of their children -  but no marriage record for them either in Much Marcle, Yatton or Little Dewchurch.

William Brown, born 1818 in Yatton and his wife Hannah Brown born in 1820 in Little Dewchurch.  Hannah was a Cobburn before she married and I can find her family living in Little Dewchurch.  I can find their children's births and christenings in Much Marcle/Yatton.  First child, Eliza was born in 1849(my great great grandmother).

I'd love to find their marriage record or perhaps they weren't married but she took his name?😶

Thank you in advance for any help with this!
