Family History Beginners Board / I am quite NEW here!
« on: Wednesday 27 August 14 22:33 BST (UK)  »
Good evening,

I am quite new here - and already "senior". It is my third thread in the third month - but post #300.

RootsChat is a great forum with great and helpful people. - I hope that I have made some helpful answers too & many thanks for your PM's.

I started 20 years ago. My wish had been to take some old photos out of a shoe box and produce a birthday present for my mother: Put them in an album POINT

There had been a group photo, dated 1901, the reason had been the silver wedding of my great grandparents - but with 30 unknown persons. I went back 130 years in family history than forward and discovered "new" living cousins and uncles of a higher grade.

Two years later I became editor of the journal: Pfälzisch-Rheinische Familienkunde" (Family history & genealogy of Palatinate & Rhineland).

My paternal ancestors Böttcher and Henning are from Anhalt, may be there is a line of a minister Kessius / Kesky from Poland.

My mother's mother has ancestors Bartels in Vorpommern and the region around Danzig: Zoll and the Mennonites Wölke from Zeeland.
The trees or lines are published in the world wide web, but I have done no active research.

Since 20 years I am working on the tree of my maternal grandfather. He had been a Bavarian, born in Palatinate and he has a fascinating tree with ancestors in Alsatia (several lines), Austria, Belgium, Bohemia, Denmark, England (may be), France (several lines), Sweden, Switzerland (several lines) and all regions of Germany except Bavaria! They had been Reformed, Lutheran, Roman-Catholic and Jewish.

With help of RootsChat I have discovered the lifestories of his English cousins (first grade), the elder was KIA 1916, the younger has got the Military Cross. A brother and other cousins had been KIA in the German Army, the cousins second grade in the Australian and American Army had been lucky survivors and several cousins of higher grade are Mort pour la France.

I am here to get in touch with my English and Australian relatives of the Spatz - Spence and Goldschmidt - Goldsmith - Bloom and Moses family. I know the rules and I will post no names of living persons!

I hope to meet them in Thiepval, First Day on the Somme 2016!
