Stirlingshire / 1851 Lookup Request: Larbert, STI
« on: Tuesday 03 June 08 05:53 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

Would one of you very generous RootsChat souls kindly search for the family of Charles & Barbara MARSHALL in the 1851 Census of Larbert, STI?  I'm unsure how many children they had by then (probably no more than two), but I'm reasonably certain one of them would be Anne Dewar MARSHALL, who was born at Kinnaird in the latter part of 1850.

Much obliged!

Renfrewshire / 1851 Census Lookup Request
« on: Sunday 11 May 08 20:05 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

John & Susan LOWRIE (or Lawrie or Laurie) resided at Williamsburgh, Abbey (Paisley) during the 1851 Census of Renfrewshire.  Present in the household were children Elizabeth, John, Helen and Susan.  If the family was still in RFW by 1851, children Peter and Jean Sim might also be present.

To anyone who can help, thanks in advance for your efforts!

Antrim Completed Look up Requests / GRO-NI Marriage Records
« on: Saturday 10 June 06 00:47 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I'm about [this] close to forking out the pounds for a marriage certificate from the GRO in Northern Ireland.  Before I do however, I would like to know what kind of information can generally be found on such certificates.

The marriage in question occurred in Belfast in 1877.  What information might I expect to find on the certificate?

Thanks in advance,

Shane

Armed Forces / 60th Rifles, circa 1815
« on: Sunday 02 April 06 23:28 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,

My 4-great grandfather was born circa 1795, was married at Auchterless, Aberdeen in 1828, and died sometime before 1856.

Aside from that, all I know is that he was a sergeant in the 60th Rifle Regiment.  I want to learn more about the military life and career of my 4g-grandfather, but efforts to research the 60th Rifles have been difficult.

Can anyone with a working knowledge of the British Army and its history point me in the right direction?

Thanks,

Shane

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / Lookup Request: Death 1878 (SCT/ENG)
« on: Saturday 22 October 05 10:42 BST (UK)  »
Sorry for the vague subject line.

If it's not too ridiculous a request, I was hoping that someone with the resources could check England for the death of a Margaret Laurie who died on or about 5 November 1878 (age unknown).

Originally I thought she died in Dunscore, Dumfriesshire, Scotland, but I can't find a record anywhere so I'm no longer certain.  Besides, it seems she had assets in England.

I'm most interested in her parents names, but any & all information would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Shane

Scotland / Request: Birth and/or Marriage Lookup
« on: Friday 07 October 05 19:44 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,

I was hoping someone could search the BIVR index for any children of Thomas McGAUCHIE & Margaret HUNTER.  At least two children (James and Mary) were born on either side of 1799, and I know one of them was born in Dunscore, DFS... but that's about it.

I'm curious about a Thomas McGAUCHIE born in Keir circa 1805 (he married a Janet Davies in Tynron in 1831), but have been unable to make a connection.

The greatest difficulty lies in the variant spellings of the surname McGAUCHIE.  I've seen everything from McKEACHIE and McKAUCHIE to McGACHIE and McGAHIE... and despite the wonders of soundex, one spelling dosen't necessarily lead to another.

The marriage of Mary McGAUCHIE to Andrew LAURIE has been impossible to find, too -- anywhere in Scotland!  The first of their children was born in Dunscore circa 1821 (when they were 20-25 years old), but I've found no compelling record of anything anywhere.

Thanks if you can help,

Shane

Nairnshire / Lookup request: Lawson in Nairn, 1881
« on: Wednesday 05 October 05 21:06 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,

I'm trying to locate the family of Robert & Jessie LAWSON.  Jessie was at 13 Church Street in 1871.  Three children were also present; husband Robert was absent.

Jessie would have been about 46 in 1881.  Children include Alexander, Robert, James and William.

Thanks in advance,

Shane

Somerset Completed Lookup Requests / 1851 Somerset: lookup request
« on: Tuesday 27 September 05 04:41 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I'm interested in the family of Thomas & Sophia BARNETT, who were probably living at York Street in Frome, Somerset in 1851.

They had at least three children at the time: Alfred, Frederick, Thomas Henry, and possibly Edwin.

Any and all data would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Shane
