Armed Forces / Bernard Percy Smith DOB 15.11.1904
« on: Sunday 18 June 23 17:09 BST (UK)  »

Have just found some notes from my Cousins files regarding Bernard above.

It seems he enlisted into the RAF when he was 18 in 1923

His Service Number 355009 ? -

I knew my Uncle way back in 1950's when he stayed with my Parents before going to Australia, but was never aware of his Military connections.

Can anyone fill in with details of his Service records?

He would probably have served his agreed time, or maybe left earlier because he had incurred a serious Motoring accident which left him with an impaired leg
.
Thanks

Bernard

Cambridgeshire / Susanna HARPER died 1802 Cambridge
« on: Sunday 21 May 23 21:42 BST (UK)  »
I've run into a problem ref Susanna's place of burial.
In the notes I've taken over from my Cousin he has written Date 1802 and Buried 24 August at St Andrew the Less,Cambridge,
This makes sense for records of their children and her husband who pre deceased her in 1792, all seem to agree this Church was used for christenings and deaths.
However another scribbled note has a question mark with Burial 1802 in Melbourn, Cambs. This is 21 miles away from Cambridge.
I'm inclined to go with St Andrew the Less. Any comments please?

Emma Smith born in BSE, Suffolk 1860 per 1861 Census. Her father James Smith and mother Charlotte Smith. and still with her father 1871
In 1881 Census I believe Emma may have been working as a Servant in Helmswell, Suffolk.
Can this be checked please.
Also after 1881 I've lost any traces.
Would appreciate any assistance in tracking Emma after 1881

Cambridgeshire Lookup Requests / John Dring 1722
« on: Thursday 05 January 17 20:59 GMT (UK)  »
John Dring christened July 1722 at St Peter, Chatteris, Cambs. Parents were John and Ann (nee Kisby). He married Ann Smith on 7 March at St Andrew the Great, Cambridge. He is shown as a Widower at (age 22) and she a Spinster (age 20).
I have been unable to find anything about his first marriage. I thought I had a link for a marriage to Mary Ribright  November 1741. But just now I find on FreReg that this John Dring declares his Parish as St Olave, Southwark which was then in Surrey.
He must have married very young to be a Widower at 22.
I would appreciate any help with locating John's first marriage details

Cambridgeshire Lookup Requests / Edward Bevis - Conundrum
« on: Wednesday 28 December 16 18:39 GMT (UK)  »
Edward Bevis married Susanna about 1725. This is based on the birth of their first child Susanna 1725 in Cambridge. I've searched for (a) a date of birth for Edward and the best I can find is December 1684. This seem too early for any marriage to Susanna, unless he married first and was a widower when he married Susanna.
I can find on FreeReg an Edward marrying Susanna Anderson (Widow) on16 June 1715 in Cambridge. Problem is if this is the right connection, why then only having first child in 1725.
Can anyone throw some light on my seemingly impossible puzzle?

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Thomas Brannon born 1835 Did he go to Sea?
« on: Wednesday 26 October 16 20:21 BST (UK)  »
Thomas Brannon was born 1835 in St George in the East Stepney.
He is on the 1851 census (age 16) with his (Head of Family) mother Katherine Brannon,12 Valentine Terrace, Mill Street, Bow, Middlesex.
His father had died 1847.
I cannot trace Thomas after the 1851 census. As his father was a master mariner, maybe he followed into the merchant navy.
Can anyone please look up to confirm this, please
