« on: Wednesday 05 February 20 12:08 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Can sks please help, if possible and do a look up for the children born to John 1763-1851 and Susan 1769-1847 Harrington nee Stable at Bootle.  John is my 5x gr uncle through his parents William 1738-1823 and Betty 1745-1821 nee Smith

John and Susan married on 4 Dec 1791 at Bootle and made their home at Fell Green.

I have followed their line through their daughters Betty 1797-1871 and Hannah 1802-1849 but I have been told that there were other children ie Nancy but no other information

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Down / McAvoy / Macken Kilkeel
« on: Sunday 08 July 18 14:00 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Nicholas McAvoy and Ann Macken, my 3x gr grandparents were married on 24 Nov 1845 at Kilkeel before travelling to Egremont, Cumberland a few years later.  Sadly Nicholas died in a mining accident there in 1870 shortly before their 9th child was born.

Can anyone please help me take my research further back or suggest links that could help me in this endeavour.

Thank you

Canada / Help Needed with Missing Person c1945
« on: Wednesday 26 March 14 00:35 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I am trying to find some information for a friend of mine.

Her grandparents married in 1943 in Surrey, England and had one son. He was French Canadian and in the Canadian Merchant Navy in 1945 when he disappeared and has not been heard of since.

We have checked the CWGC and UK records but can find nothing.

All that she knows is his name and service no, which I won't put on here at the moment as I appreciate that he could still be alive.

Can sks please suggest where we look next.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Leicestershire / The Adult School - West End [Leicester] Branch 1914-18 Help Needed
« on: Tuesday 04 February 14 17:00 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

In 1914 there were approx two dozen Adult Schools in Leicester and all those members of the West End [Narborough Road/Hinckley Road] branch that enlisted had their photographs taken and put into an album.  After the war the father of one of those killed presented a wooden plaque commemorating all those that gave their lives but this has since been lost.

When they sold the building the album was permanently loaned to the Wigston RO and my mum who is a member and on the Leicestershire Executive would like to find out what happened to them all.

At present I only have a list of their names and where known, the regiment they served with but in the next few days I will be receiving from them a copy of the actual photographs as well.

If anyone has any information on anyone can they please contact me and I will then be able to forward a copy on to them.

Sussex / The marriage of John Shoesmith to Lydia Sheather
« on: Monday 25 November 13 17:39 GMT (UK)  »
Moderator comment: moving this to Sussex since it all seems to relate to that county  ;)

Hi

I'm working on a family tree for a friend and on a scruffy piece of paper she found in the back of a book is

Marriage of Lydia Sheather
Date
15 OCT 1826
Location
Westfield, Sussex, England
to John Shoesmith

we haven't a clue who wrote it or when, working back they appear to be her 2x gr grandparents but as this is the only source we have besides the censuses I was hoping sks could point me in the direction of finding out more.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope to hear from you soon.

Other Countries / Travelling from the UK to Argentina in the late 1800's
« on: Wednesday 20 November 13 22:38 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I understand that over 100,000 people emigrated to Argentina in the late 1800's and wondered how they travelled there from the UK.
