« on: Sunday 01 December 19 11:39 GMT (UK)  »
Hello. I am looking for Anthony Major/Anton Majer born June 12, 1885.

Here is what I have found so far:

1930 U.S. Census finds him living in Fairmont, St. Clair County, Illinois, USA. It lists him as being born in Austria in 1884. Parents also born Austria. Native language Croatian. Immigrated in 1910. Married 18 years. Alien.
1920 Census -(Tony & Annie Madger) same information but lists native tongue as Bohemian & immigration as 1901.

Find A Grave data:
Born June 12, 1885, died Feb. 5, 1931. Parents were Michael & Eva Stelich Major. Anthony married Anna Ziaza/Jiaja ? b. 1886 Austria.

Illinois Death Index:
Name:Anthony Major Birth Date:13 Jun 1885 Birth Place: Jugo, Slavia
Father Name:Michael Major Father Birth Place: Jugo, Slavia Mother Name:Eva Stelich Mother Birth Place: Jugo, Slivia
Comments:resident 12y in U.S.A.

There are 3 different immigration years listed. The only immigration record I could find has the following data-

Antrim / Looking for Michael Renny/Raney/Rainey born abt. 1794 Baleymoney Antrim
« on: Sunday 19 August 18 15:33 BST (UK)  »
Hello! I have had a huge breakthrough using DNA to find information on my Rainey family from Ireland.
I have found a marriage record for Michael Renny (all written as found in the church records- census records show the name as Raney).
Michael Renny Religion: Anglican Marriage Date: 1819 Marriage Place:Quebec (Quebec City), Québec (Quebec)Place of Worship or Institution:Anglican Cathedral Holy Trinity Church Spouse:Mary McNicoll. The record also states he was age 25 and was a weaver.

So now I have an actual place in Ireland to start searching!

I have been looking for John Gilmore born about 1805 & wife Mary Rainey born about 1801. As I now have a bit more information as to where her brother Michael came from, I am hoping there may be more on Mary & John Gilmore as well. I also found that John's parents were Francis Gilmore & mother was named Mary according to a second marriage record for him. No marriage record for John & Mary. Their children were born in Grenville County Ontario Canada.

As Michael was indeed born in Ireland, I am presuming Mary was as well. I am hoping John Gilmore was also.

Any further information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Donna Johnson

Dumfriesshire / James Gilmore of Middlebie 1841
« on: Saturday 05 May 18 15:23 BST (UK)  »
Hello,
I am trying to find more information on my Gilmore family. I am looking for a John Gilmore born about 1793 & his wife (Mary?) born about 1799. I have found him in the 1861 census in Wentworth Ontario and he is listed as being born in Scotland.
I have also found a James Gilmore (I am presuming James & John are brothers) born 1799 Scotland who married Janet (Robertson). In the 1861 census they had the following children: Thomas b 1837, George b 1839 & Andrew b 1844.

From this information I found them in the 1841 Scotland census living in Middlebie at Netheralbie Cottage. I searched for John Gilmore but did not have any luck. I am hoping that my assumption is correct that they are siblings and someone can find information on John & his wife.

In my line I have John Henry Gilmore born about 1829 & a sister Agnes born about 1828. Parents were John Gilmore & Mary Rainey/Boney ?

Thank you for any information or tips on finding my John Gilmore family.

Europe / Germany: Dresden B/M/D 1685-1879 look up for von Sandersleben
« on: Tuesday 10 May 16 12:08 BST (UK)  »
I have finally found a hint on Ancestry for Fredrik Christian von Sandersleben who was born in Germany and died 1683 in Sweden. He was married to Christina Ulf born 1649 in Sweden. I do know that he was in the Swedish military.

The hint - Dresden, Germany, Weekly Church Reports of Birth, Marriage and Deaths 1685-1879.
Fredrik von Sandersleben
2.1.3.C.XXl.20/143
Fredrik von Sandersleben
Arthur von Sandersleben

I am know that "my" Fredrik died in 1683 so it may not be an actual record for him but am hoping it may be his father. As Fredrik's wife was born in 1649 I am presuming he was born about the same time as well and he might have died at a young age. This does however make it possible for a father of the same name to die after 1685. Just a theory. I have never seen the name von Sandersleben in Germany before and thought I would ask.

Thank you,
Donna

Antrim / Need help connecting the Gilmore's from Antrim
« on: Sunday 08 May 16 17:06 BST (UK)  »
I have resorted to genetic genealogy to find more information on my Gilmore line. I am hoping that someone can help me connect some Gilmore's I have found with my dna matches.

Several of my matches have John Gilmore born 1715  Coleraine, Londonderry, Ulster, Ireland, son of John Gilmore born 1690  Coleraine, Londonderry, Ulster, Ireland & mother Agnes Anderson born about 1690  Londonderry Co, Ulster Province. John immigrated to Rockbridge, Virginia.

Other dna matches have Rev. George Gilmore born 1720 County Antrim, Ulster, Ireland. George Gilmore (1720-1811) was born in County Antrim, Ireland, studied at the University of Edinburgh, and in 1769 emigrated to the American Colonies. He was ordained by the Church of Scotland in 1773. George immigrated to Hants Nova Scotia (via Philadelphia).

I am hoping to find more about George. Perhaps there is a relationship between him & John born 1720.

I am thinking that there might be another sibling to either John or George that would be my line. I am definitely not in George's line but am related to several that are. I have a John (Henry?) Gilmore born about 1805 who married a Mary Rainey. They immigrated to Ontario Canada before 1828 when daughter Agnes was born & son  John Henry Jr. born 1830 (my line). The name John Henry is found 2 more times in my family. There might also be a Henry connection in Ireland as well.

I'm just stuck trying to find more information on the Gilmore's Any information or tips would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,
Donna

Westmeath / William Kelly- County Westmeath born Jun. 24, 1798
« on: Wednesday 06 April 16 15:36 BST (UK)  »
I am hoping to find information that will lead me to my Gilmore family from Ireland. I have found the daughter of William Kelly & wife Margaret Flannigan Jan. 15, 1810 Clonmullen County Carlow. Her name was Mary Kelly born 1831. Not sure exactly where she was born. She had a sister Catherine born 1838.
Mary married Thomas Gilmore born 1822. His mother's name was Mary & his father may have been John. Thomas had a brother John born 1827.

I am not sure if Mary Kelly & Thomas Gilmore were married in Ireland or the U.S. I found them in the 1855 census in Greece, Monroe Co. N.Y. It only says they were living in that town for 1 year and married for 1 year. I don't know where they were before 1855.

Any help to find the Gilmore family would be greatly appreciated. Sorry I am going about it a bit backwards but I don't have anything else for clues.

Thank you,
Donna Johnson

Derry (Londonderry) / John Gilmore & Mary Rainey
« on: Sunday 01 November 15 16:13 GMT (UK)  »
Through DNA matches I have found I am related to the family of John Gilmore b.Aug 1692  Coleraine, Londonderry, Northern Ireland.

Father Robert Gilmore, Sr. b. 1670, Coleraine, , Londonderry, Northern Ireland.  d. 1750, Londonderry, Rockingham, New Hampshire, United States
Mother Mary Ann Kennedy  b. 1673, Coleraine, , Londonderry, Northern Ireland.

I have in my family a John (? Henry) born about 1805. He was married to Mary Rainey. They had a son born in Canada about 1830 named John Henry.

As I have tried for a very long time to find a John Gilmore born about 1805 in John Gilmore family of Rockbridge, Va. without sucess, I am wondering if my John Gilmore was born in Ireland.

Perhaps records could be found in Coleraine or Ulster. Any help finding my John Gilmore born 1805 & wife Mary Rainey would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Donna

Ireland / John Gilmore b. 1805 Ireland & wife Mary Rainy/Rainey- need help please
« on: Sunday 02 August 15 23:03 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find information on where **John Gilmore was born about 1805 in Ireland and his wife Mary Rainy/Rainey.
The only information I have documented on them is an 1861 census record in Wentworth, Ontario, Canada* where John is listed as _____ Gilmore age 56. It also states he was born in the U.S.
* In the same household is his son John (Jr.) born 1830 in Canada. There is no record of wife Mary in the house (perhaps John (Sr.) was visiting or she had died by then).

**On John (Jr.) 2nd marriage record in 1862, it lists his parents as John Gilmore & Mary Rainy so that is how I found their names. I am presuming he was a Jr. as they were both named John. I did find on John Jr.'s sons death data that his father was John Henry. Of course his son was also John Henry! Nothing like adding more confusion to the mix.

All of John Jr.'s census records have him consistently being born in Upper Canada (Ontario) about 1830. His parents would have immigrated to Canada before 1830 (or even perhaps the U.S.).

I have tried for over 20 years to find John Gilmore & Mary Rainy & have had no luck at all. I have been to Toronto Ontario as well as Wentworth looking for more data and found nothing. I have a million posts on line about them with no leads. I thought I would try posting here as I have had tremendous luck finding information on other people.

Any information or tips on what I could do next would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Donna
