I am hoping that some of you talented restorers can do something with this photo please.

It was taken around 1953 in Egypt and is the only one I have of my late husband as a young man. He was in the Army Catering Corps doing his National Service at the time. Sadly, he passed away in 1988 aged 54.

Thank you all,

Dorrie

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Robert Easson Black Watch WW1
« on: Sunday 07 November 21 10:52 GMT (UK)  »
Good morning to to you all.

I am hoping that you very talented people can give this gentleman a spruce up please.

Robert joined up at the beginning of WW1 but was severely wounded in France on 24th May 1916. He was transferred to Alder Hey Military Hospital, Liverpool where he sadly died on 14th November 1919.

He was brought back to St Monans, Fife, Scotland for burial where he lies in an unmarked grave. The CWGC have now agreed to erect a Headstone in the Kirkyard to honour him. I have had word that this will happen fairly soon. There is a Memorial Service planned for the day by family and the local Community Council.

This is the only photo of Robert that survives.

Thank you,

Dorrie

Orkney / Street location of Optician in Kirkwall in 1917
« on: Saturday 10 April 21 22:37 BST (UK)  »
I wonder if someone could please help with the street the Optician's would be in. This would be in Kirkwall around 1917.

My grandmother's occupation is given as Trainee Optician on my mother's birth certificate in 1918. The family were living at Baikies Buildings, Junction Road, Kirkwall.

Thank you,

Dorrie

This is my friend's great grandfather Bertie Lee. He was born in Suffolk in 1881 and was a Trawl Fisherman all his life.

He settled in Aberdeen around 1908 when he married a local lass and spent the rest of his long life in Aberdeen. He saw service during WW1 in the Royal Naval Reserve.

Could someone please give Bertie a bit of a clean up.

Thank you.

« on: Thursday 19 March 20 15:43 GMT (UK)  »
Here is the other photo as promised. Guthrie was born in 1924 so this one must have been taken around 1928/1929.

Any improvement would be greatly appreciated thank you,

Dorrie

As we all seem to have some extra time on our hands at the moment I would be very grateful if you expert people could restore/colour this family photograph please.
Auntie Meg was born on 26th November 1896 in Dundee. This photo was given to me by another family member recently and we believe it was taken on her wedding day in 1922.

Thank you

New Zealand Completed Requests / Searching New Zealand BDM's In Person
« on: Sunday 19 May 19 12:41 BST (UK)  »
Greetings from Scotland.

Just a general enquiry at the moment. We have family who moved from Scotland to North Island in the 1900's. Have quite a bit of information and photos of them from another family member.

My question is this - A young cousin is over in Auckland at the moment so is there anywhere she can go to check records in person?

We have places here in Scotland where you can do this e.g. Scotlandspeople, Mitchell Library.

Your help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Please could someone give a bit of colour to my Great Granny - Mary Malcolm - She was born in Dundee in 1860 and died there in 1945. I was given this photo by a cousin last year and it was the first time I knew what she looked like.
Thank you all.
