Australia / Charles Henry Coop/Coope - convict Tasmania
« on: Thursday 07 April 22 15:18 BST (UK)  »
Hi - trying to find out what happened to Charles Henry Coop/Coope - he was deported in 1850 for 7 yrs for larceny arriving in Aug 1850 on the "Maria Somes".  He obviously hadn't learnt his lesson as he is in and out of prison several times between 1863 and 1872!
After that I can find no records.
Any assistance appreciated!
Thanks

Cheshire / Albert Henry HILL - prison records
« on: Thursday 07 April 22 14:50 BST (UK)  »
Looking for any info on Albert Henry HILL - family history says he was supposedly sent to prison between 1933 -1938.  Lived in the Wirral and worked at British Oxygen.  When he came out of prison he went back to his old job.

Have looked for newspaper articles on FindMyPast - unsure what to think the crime was for him to be allowed back to work?!
Are there any links to local Cheshire newspapers ?

born: 18/4/02 in Eastham Cheshire

Kent / Charles Brunger b1859 in Maidstone
« on: Thursday 21 May 20 11:09 BST (UK)  »
I have identified 2 Charles Brungers.

Charles 1 is the son of George Brunger and Selina Bennett. He is clearly traceable from his birth 8/06/1859 through his baptisms, and the census to his marriage in 1894 to Agnes Fanny Thompson.  I lose him after 1920 and cannot find a death for him yet.
He sometimes is recorded as Charles William.

Charles 2 has no records until his marriage in 1880 to Mary Waters Andrews.  He is then traceable via the census to his death in 1917.  On his marriage cert he puts his father as George.
He is sometimes recorded as Charles George.

Some people seem to record this as one and the same person; but 1881 has Charles 1 living with his parents at  156, Up Stone Street, Maidstone, Kent; and 1881 has Charles 2 living with his wife down the road at 82 Upper Stone Street, Maidstone, Kent.

1881 confusingly has Charles 1 as married in that census but his marriage cert says he is a bachelor.

My question is.... where is Charles 2 in 61 and 71.  There are no birth records for another Charles born in Maidstone in 1859 +/- 2 years.  I have also searched under Bronger.
Who is he!?
Thanks for any help!

Armed Forces / What Regiment Arthur Hitchmough
« on: Saturday 23 November 19 12:10 GMT (UK)  »
Would love assistance with the regiment of the chaps in this pic please.  They were born in 1908 (standing) and 1903 ( sitting) so I am guessing between wars or 1939.  Both born in Lancashire.

South Africa / George Peter Heffer
« on: Sunday 10 November 19 19:07 GMT (UK)  »
I've just found a death record for a George Peter Heffer who was 28 yrs old who may (or may not) match my tree - George Peter Heffer born in Kent in 1854.
One record shows him as a draper in Cape Town in 1882 and then I have a grave pic 1883 from Wynberg Cemetery but unfortunately I cannot read the inscription.
Is there anywhere else I can search SA records please?

Europe / Malta Marriage and Birth certificates for Cooke
« on: Sunday 18 August 19 18:50 BST (UK)  »
Very little to go on.... Arthur John Cooke (b  27 July 1897)  married a Mary.
Military records updated 9/24 (assume this is a date...) giving her details as Mrs Mary Cooke, and address is (I think) 9 Strada Due, Cospicua. Malta.
I know they had a daughter, Alice.  Assume born shortly after the wedding.

Arthur John Cooke then remarries in June 1928 in Croydon, England, saying he is a widower.

I have searched on http://en.geneanum.com/malta/databases for Alice's birth and Mary's death but nothing under Cooke.
Arthur was in the Navy based in Malta.

Is it worth applying to https://secure2.gov.mt/certifikati/ with such little information or is there any other way.
TIA.

Her husband has been transcribed as William Frederick Sallerping.... but I don't think that is right.
If a kind person has a subscription....?
