Family History Beginners Board / Marriage Cert
« on: Sunday 05 June 16 00:29 BST (UK)  »
Hi.  As a beginner, am trying to find what is the best way to research for a marriage cert, when you only have a female Birth Cert to hand.  Would I have to trawl through every county/country for each year that she was alive, to try and find her Marriage Cert.  Or is there an easier way.

Thank you

Family History Beginners Board / Spinster
« on: Saturday 28 May 16 00:27 BST (UK)  »
Hi.  I am looking for some guidance.  My late father has made a note of his side of the family tree.  but the problem that I am having is that when trying to confirm his findings I come up with a brick wall.  I have a will and testament for a certain lady, which reads that she was a spinster.  but his notes mention that she married a certain male.  Have searched through ScotlandsPeople, Find my Past. Family Search all to no avail.  Where to go from here.  Also on his notes, and I am assuming, that he has also written down that the aforementioned couple, looks like they had children.  It looks like the children were born after the 1911 census.  Where next. Hope that doesn't confuse everyone.  So what I am really trying to find is their marriage cert, if that does exist, and  also what then could be the names of their children. Thank you Evergreen7.

Family History Beginners Board / Searching for Maternal Siblings
« on: Monday 02 November 15 23:16 GMT (UK)  »
Hi I'm new here.  I am researching my maternal family line, was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction.

I know from all accounts that my maternal aunt was born in Scotland, married in Scotland, then had to moved to England, she passed away in England. but was buried/cremated in Scotland.

So unsure whether or not to look up the English Burial/Cementation Records or the Scottish Equivalent.

Thank you in Great Kindness

Family History Beginners Board / Death Cert Formats
« on: Wednesday 08 July 15 22:22 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I have two Death Certificates.  One for my Paternal Mother, and the other is for my Paternal aunt.  Now, I am just curious.  On looking at the two Cert.  the formats appear to be totally different.  Does anyone know when (in what year) they were reformatted, so to speak.  As I can see no clue on the form itself.  Hope that makes sense

Both have headings on the Death Certificates of "Extract of an Entry in the Register of Deaths"

Thank you

Family History Beginners Board / Historical Timeline
« on: Thursday 18 June 15 22:07 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I am trying to locate a good online historical timeline website that when viewed shows general historical dates.  So for example when was the Irish potato famine, what exact date?  The battle of Nasby what exact date?  When did Australia have it's first Settlers. What exact date?  So I can then use some creative thinking to trace what people did at that specific time in history.

Thank you

HI

I know that when you start your family history research you start with yourself and then work backwards.  My enquiry takes in the form of having a Title Deeds Death Envelope that my late father kept in his files.  Unfortunately there is no certificate inside.  So all I am wanting to find out is who is this person and how and if he relates to my late father.  The details on the front of the envelope say the person died in the year 1897.

So do I assume that I start with him and work forwards.!!!!  Or is there another way to finding out this persons relation.

Thanks

Alex
