Family History Beginners Board / Marital Status - Event or Fact
« on: Thursday 14 March 24 11:26 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Everyone.

When using a Census to record data, this is classed as an ' Event ' the same as Birth, Marriage, Military Service, Death etc

On the Census you may have the Marital Status listed so would this be classed as an ' Event ' for the person or a ' Fact ' ?

Family History Beginners Board / Repository Stated In Source / Citation
« on: Tuesday 09 May 23 16:18 BST (UK)  »
Hi All,

Hope you enjoyed the Coronation weekend and found time to get some reasearch done  :)

A question I now have is when creating your Citation / Source what repository do you give ?

I.E
The BMD Indexies are available on multiple sites as well as at the National Archives and the GRO, do you put where you found it or do you put it as the main holder / repository even if you found the entry on a website ?

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) Lookup Requests / Will & Matilda Blakeborough - 1891
« on: Saturday 14 January 23 16:37 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,

Looking for a fresh pair of eyes.

I am trying to find the Blakeboroughs from Gomersal in the 1891 census and not having much luck, in 1881 they are in Gomersal, 1901 Heckmondwike and 1911 Hull.

Matilda was born in 1860 and appears to have twins Hairs(e)ine & Evelyn in 1881 but still no joy locating them  :( Her husband is Will and so thought that would be to common a name to search for  so tried with Matilda, Hairs(e)ine & Evelyn and still no joy.

If anyone wants to have a look then please do and hope you are able to locate this elusive family :)

Name   Events and Relationships

Kent / Matthew John Durey Abt 1863 - Smarden
« on: Monday 13 September 21 13:38 BST (UK)  »
Hi Everyone,

A long shot but hoping if anyone will have a better view than me.

I have Matthew John Durey supposedly born in Smarden apx 1863 but am unable to find a birth.

I have his marriage to Susannah King - 30/08/1888 - Sutton Valance and then I can find him in the 1871 census

"England and Wales Census, 1871", database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KD8Q-9FR : 25 April 2019), Matthew John Durey in entry for William Durey, 1871

But I cannot find his birth registered or in the Parish registers for Smarden that are on Find My Past, although it is a family that works on farms and so did move around alot and might have got the birth location confused ?

Any help / advice would be appreciated

Hi All,

Just found that there is a 10% discount for a Find My Past subscription on the uk bmd website http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/

Finishes 21 Feb, so be quick  ;D For me it's the best discount seen for a while - there's been no 50% or similar for a long while, must be trying to recoup for the 1939 Register  :-X

Family History Beginners Board / How much information about an ex spouse ?
« on: Tuesday 27 September 16 12:28 BST (UK)  »
Hi All  :)

Two fairly basic questions about things I've come across  ???

A direct line ancestor married a divorcee and then subsequently divorced !!

Firstly, they had no children ( that's the easy part  ;) ) but would you prove the previous marriage and birth of the other person, or would you just prove the marriage to the ancestor ?

Secondly, how easy to find the evidence and prove a Divorce so that it can be proved the next marriage was legal ?

Thanks in advance for any comments / opinions / suggestions  :)

Family History Beginners Board / Birth Registration Index Volume and Page Numbers
« on: Thursday 25 February 16 12:52 GMT (UK)  »
This is a newbie question and hope some-one can help.

I have searched for the Births of three children, two where born before the marriage and have found the original BMD Index entries. I have then found their entries for just after the marriage - their names are the same on both entries including Surname. The second entries have the following :-

Volume: ****C and Page Number: C**A  ( numbers replaced with * )

I take it this would mean that possibly the fathers / husbands name has been added after the marriage?

The third child was born after the marriage, but the only BMD Index entry I can find gives the following :-

Volume: ****B and Page Number B**A ( numbers replaced with * )

What do these codes mean as they do not fit with any other BMD Index numbers for the area of registration  ???

Family History Beginners Board / England Locations In Genealogy
« on: Monday 04 January 16 13:35 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I cannot find anything.

When entering the location of someones Birth, Marriage, Death, where they lived or other event in England is it best to use a 3 place naming system or a 4?

An example being if someone is born in Maidstone it would be :-

Maidstone, Kent, England ( Only 3 places )

But if they where born on the outskirts ( Park Wood ) this would be :-

Park Wood, Maidstone, Kent, England ( 4 places available ) or there is also a Park Wood in Gillingham, Kent and this would be defined as

Park Wood, Gillingham, Kent, England ( 4 places )   :-\

If I use the 4, would I just enter the first example as :-

, Maidstone, Kent, England

Any help or advice would be very much appreciated   :-[

Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / Unable to Find the Mother of Eleanor ADDEY
« on: Tuesday 16 June 15 06:44 BST (UK)  »
Hi Everyone,

I have found the BMD entry for Eleanor Addey - born Jan 1924 on the IOW.

The Birth Certificate has been received with bad news, no name of the father, so that will probably be a permanent brick-wall  :(

The next conundrum is her mother. The certificate states ' Hilda Addey ' with the maiden name also being Addey. I have searched and cannot find a 'Hilda Addey' on the 1891, 1901 or 1911 censuses or a Birth  ???

Eleanor was placed in an Orphanage so has a 'false' name been given by her mother as she appears to be born out of wedlock and so is this also a permanent brick-wall  :-\
