Armagh / Thomas Wilson / James Wilson relationship- Ballynary, Tartaraghan, Armagh
« on: Thursday 25 August 22 18:46 BST (UK)  »
Hi Everyone!  Looking for any possible assistance trying to figure out the relationship between my great grandfather, Thomas WILSON, born June 24, 1861 in Ballynary, Tartaraghan, Armagh, Ireland and another gentleman (James, more below) who may be either his son or nephew. Thomas’ parents were George Wilson (1829-Jan 10, 1889) and Francis Greenaway (Dec 17, 1827- Nov 2, 1884). I can only find the following siblings for Thomas: Anne, Jane, Mary, Elizabeth and James. Thomas moved to Manchester, CT to work at the Cheney Silk Mills in the late 1880s. He married Isabella Gilpin on October 6, 1891 in Astoria, Queens, NY. They had 3 daughters: Ethel (my grandmother), Amanda and Maude. However, at some point in the 1890s, a James Wilson (born June 28, 1884 in Portadown) comes to live with Thomas and Isabella. James also worked at the silk mills, he notes on his employment card that his father is Thomas and his sister is Ethel. Thomas’ employment card lists James as a relative but doesn’t define to what degree. When Thomas died in 1952, his obituary lists James as his son. Isabella’s obit in 1915 doesn’t even mention James. James’ grandson told me that he said that he was orphaned in Ireland and came to live with Thomas but he never discussed the nature of the relationship. I had hoped that finding Thomas’ parents and siblings in Armagh would have cleared this up but it’s another roadblock. I can only find one brother for Thomas, James, born Jan 17, 1854 but I have no further information on him, whether he married, had children, died and left a child orphaned. And I cannot find a birth through the civil registry for James that gives me anything definitive. There is a James born June 25th 1884 to an Arthur Wilson and Elizabeth Reid, but I can’t tie them to Thomas. If anyone has any information, I’d love to finally figure out the relationship. Was Thomas James’ father or uncle perhaps? Thanks so much. Laura.

Armagh / Turkington and Greenaway Tartaraghan, Armagh
« on: Thursday 14 April 22 16:48 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Checking to see if anyone may have this couple in their information:  James Greenaway (1802-1871 b. Tartaraghan) and Jane Turkington (1802-1872, b. Tartaraghan).  James Greenaway's father may have been Francis and Jane Turkington's father may have been Samuel.  I believe that they were married around 1830 and had the following children:  Frances, Elizabeth, James, Martha, and Thomas.  This couple would be my 3rd great grandparents.

Trying to find more information around their marriage in order to perhaps identify their parents.

Thanks so much,
Laura

Armagh / George Wilson Tartaraghan, County Armagh, Ireland
« on: Friday 01 April 22 16:28 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I searched the boards and could not find anything on the George Wilson I am inquiring about, my apologies in advance if I missed it.

Thanks to members of this community (one in particular!), I have, after many years, discovered the parents of my great grandfather Thomas Wilson b. abt. 1861 Ballynary, Tartaraghan, Armagh.

His parents were George Wilson (abt. 1829-1889) and Frances Greenaway (abt 1827-1884) m Apr 11, 1850.  Their children, that I've identified are:  my gg grandfather, Thomas,  James, Anne, Jane, Mary, Elizabeth, Sarah, Margaret, Frances.

I know from George and Frances' marriage record that his father was also George Wilson

I am looking for any information on this earlier George Wilson (I believe b abt 1800 Tartaraghan, Armagh) d. 1877), potentially who is his wife was, his parents, etc.

Also if anyone has any info on whether the second George and Frances had any other children beside the ones I listed above, I always thought there were more sons, I would appreciate it.

Thank you,
Laura

Armagh / Eliza Jane Gilpin, daughter of James Gilpin

Hi
I'm checking in to see if anyone has any information and/or records on my 2nd great grandmother, Eliza Jane Gilpin (b. abt 1838, d. Jan 25, 1912) from Armagh, I believe Portadown.  She married William Verner Gilpin Oct 2, 1856 Seagoe.  From the marriage record, I know her father is James, a farmer Seagoe Parish.  I know her husband's family, I have their children and decendants.  I'm struggling with her ancestors beyond the name of her father James.  If anyone has any information you'd be willing to share, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks so much,
Laura

« on: Monday 10 May 21 18:34 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Looking for any information on John Williams b. Dec 12, 1756, I believe in Cwmcarvan.  His mother's name may have been Margaret Williams.  He died Jan 28, 1808 in Cwmcarvan.  Married to Elizabeth Hambleton, I believe.  Elizabeth may have been born about 1776 in Cwmcarvan and died June 23, 1822 in Cwmcarvan also. The only child I have information on for them is James Williams b. July 12, 1795 in Cwmcarvan, died Feb 3, 1877 Newport, Monmouthshire.

Thank you, I appreciate any help/direction you can offer.

Armagh / Isabella Gilpin dob abt 1858 Armagh
« on: Friday 30 April 21 18:44 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I've posted this before and got some amazing information from the group.  I've hit another wall so thought I'd try again.  I strongly believe that my great grandmother, Isabella Gilpin, born around 1858 in Armagh (possibly Portadown) is the daughter of William Verner Gilpin.  I just cannot prove it since birth records are not available that early online.  I believe she is because on her death certificate (March 1915 in Connecticut, USA) her father is listed as Wm V. Gilpin.  Her obituary mentions a brother David and James, both the names of two of William Verner's sons.  I just want to have something more definitive if possible, otherwise I feel like I'm speculating.  I've tried twice to obtain her marriage certificate in the hopes it would list her father's name.  Using the NY Health Department index on Ancestry, I believe she was married in Queens to Thomas Wilson in 1891.  Both requests have turned up no records.  NY Health sent me to NYC and NYC sent me back to the NY Health Department!  I was hoping a marriage cert would have been my proof.

So back to square one on trying to prove out that she is in fact a daughter of Wm Verner.  If anyone has her in your tree or access to any church records, I assume Methodist.  I'd appreciate your assistance.  Thank you,

Laura

« on: Friday 14 August 20 14:30 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Curious if anyone may have any information on Sabinae Mulligan b. approx 1768, Drumloughlin, Emartis, County Monaghan.  Father possibly Bryan Mulligan (b. 1740 ish).  She married Mattias (Matthew) McManus date ukn and had at least 7 children all born in St. Peter's Athlone, Roscommon.  First born child born in 1791 and through 1808.  Her date of death may have been 1810 ish.

Any information or if anyone has the ability to look up parish records in Emartis as early as 1768 (online records do not go as far back on the NLI site), I'd appreciate it.

Thank you,
Laura

Tipperary / Judy or Johanna Callaghan born Cashel and Emly Tipperary
« on: Monday 10 August 20 18:53 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Looking to see if anyone has information on or has Judy (maybe Johanna) Callaghan in their tree?  I believe she would have been born around 1814 in Cashel/Emly Tipperary.   Cannot find any birth information as the NLI records for Cashel/Emly are missing 1814 births.  She married Thomas Dwyer in 1833 in Upperchurch and Drombane Tipperary.  They had 10 children that I can find ranging from 1833 (Winifred, my 2nd great grandmother) through 1856.  Winifred was in Connecticut, married and had a child by 1855.  So at some point after that, some of the rest of the family including Judy and perhaps Thomas emigrated to Syracuse, NY where she died in 1880.  I'm trying to find her in NY without much luck but do have a few leads.  Curious if anyone has any information on her or Thomas in Ireland?

Thanks,
Laura
