Lanarkshire / Glenholm
« on: Sunday 09 July 17 22:54 BST (UK)  »
So, yesterday I'm driving from Moffat through the borders and pass a place saying Glenholm garden center. Glenholm was where my 2 x great grandmother was born. Anyone on here familiar with the name Boa? I didn't realise the actual place still existed.

Lanarkshire / Quigley family.
« on: Thursday 29 June 17 23:16 BST (UK)  »
Hi all. I'm looking for information on Sarah Quigley, daughter of James Quigley and Mary Leitch. She died 16/09/1868 at 5 Stonecraig Row, Newmains. Would Sarah have been buiried in Cambusnethan cemetery? Prior to finding Sarah, the earliest record I could find of James was the 1871 census which shows them living in Carluke. James, Mary and other family members are buiried in Carluke Old cemetery. Is there any way I could find out who else was living at the address in 1868? Or, if Sarah is buiried with other Quigley's? Any help appreciated.

Peeblesshire / peebles poorhouse
« on: Thursday 26 January 17 21:32 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone know where to find out if there are any records which would show details of inmates of Peebles poorhouse, around the time of 1899 - 1910? I'm trying to find out why one of my ancestors had to enter the poorhouse. Also, where would an inmate be buried when they died?

Lanarkshire / cemetery records
« on: Thursday 14 July 16 23:02 BST (UK)  »
hi all, I've been researching my mums side of the family tree, and have found out most of her grandparent's family are buried in St. Patrick's cemetery in new Stevenson, Lanarkshire. However, today I found out that two of the names I found are not buried there. The family lived in Cleland and the two babies died in 1903 and 1905. I was told today that St Patrick's cemetery didn't exist at that time, so my question is where would the babies have most likely been buried at that time? Or anyone else from Cleland ? Does anyone know what cemetery is closest?

Donegal / Edward O'Donnell/Mary mcGettigan
« on: Sunday 08 May 16 23:07 BST (UK)  »
Trying to find out any information about my 2 x great grandparents Edward O'Donnell and Mary McGettigan. They possibly lived in Glen, and had sons Daniel and John, and a daughter Bridget. Daniel was born around 1867, John in 1869, and Bridget in 1866. I believe there were other children too, but so far I've had no luck locating them. Possible son called Mandy, ( edmond? manus ? ) Believe there was a hotel or similar business which transferred to McGettigan side of the family because no O'Donnells were left in Donegal to inherit. Does any of this ring any bells with anyone? Daniel got married in 1894, in Glasgow, Scotland, to Ellen Higgins.

Lanarkshire / st kentigerns cemetery glasgow

hi all, me again. Can anyone tell me if its possible to find out the lair number of an old grave and if so who would I contact? Also, is it possible to find all the names of people interred in the same grave?                                   I've been told that people were sometimes buried wherever there was an available space, and not necessarily the same family. The burials would have taken place around the early 1900,s.

West Lothian (Linlithgowshire) / Michael Rielley, Bo'ness
« on: Wednesday 09 December 15 22:06 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I'm trying to find out information on Michael Rielley aka Rielly, Reilly and Rielly. He was born in Bo'ness in 1821 or 1822, to parents Michael and Mary. Michael snr was born in Ireland and the 1841 census shows he has a wife, Mary, and two children, Michael, aged 3 years, and James, aged 3 months. I found a death cert for Michael jnr, who died aged 48, in cambusnethan in 1897. What i'd really like to know is when his parents died, and if they were still in Linlithgowshire. Mary's maiden name looks like Mulrane, but not sure, as the writing is hard to decipher. Its also possible Michael snr was married twice, as there is a Hugh Rielley who owns the lair in which Michael jnr is buried, but I cant find any connection between the two. Oh, and the 1871 and 1881 census show Michael snr still living in Bo'ness. If I could find out the year he died, I could contact the cemeteries person to find out where he is buried and possibly find more relations. Long shot but thought I'd ask. :)

Family History Beginners Board / Paddy Carroll
« on: Friday 02 October 15 20:37 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I'm trying to find out any information about Paddy Carroll, last known address, 42 Castle St Coventry, England. Paddy was my grandfather's brother. He was born in Cleland in 1912, to parents Tom Carroll and Bridget Kelly. His brothers were Tom, Phil, John and James, and his sister was Maggie. Paddy was living in Coventry in the 1950's but the family lost contact with him. I don't know if he was married, or had children, where he lived after Castle Street, when or how he died? Does anybody out there know anything?

Monaghan / marriage of James Quigley and Mary Leitch
« on: Sunday 26 July 15 21:27 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I'm having difficulty finding a marriage cert for James Quigley and Mary Leitch, who according to details on one of their children's birth certificates, were married on 6/10/ 1857, in Co. Monaghan. I cant even find details of them living in Ireland on the Ireland family history site, although I managed to get info from family search.org on their children. Can anyone help?                                                           Just discovered that registration didn't begin till 1864. Would there be parish records available? Catholic?
