Lancashire Lookup Requests / Holy Name Chorlton on Medlock - GREER
« on: Wednesday 21 December 22 15:00 GMT (UK)  »
I believe that my Great Grandmother (Mary Greer) may have been baptised at Holy Name, Chorlton on Medlock in 1889. She was born abt 1862 in Northern Ireland, but I think she converted to Roman Catholicism in adulthood.
Can anybody tell me how I can access any baptismal records that may exist, that would include this event?
Thank you.

Immigrants & Emigrants - General / Russian Polish Ancestor - Birth Location
« on: Saturday 15 May 21 14:29 BST (UK)  »
Hi there...
I have a Polish ancestor Stanley Zyke, who was born in Russian Poland (1911 census) on the 21st May, 1878 (1939 Register). I also have his marriage certificate, Church Marriage Register entry and death certificate. None of these records tell me whereabouts in Russian Poland he was born. I’ve approached the Police Museum to check any Alien Registers and also the Coroners Office for details of his inquest when he died - none of them give his birth details. He was also in the R.F.A. (#5080) during WW1 but there is no service record that I can find.
Can anybody think where else I could look, to find his region or town of birth?
Thanks for any help.

World War One / Help Identifying A Service Number - WW1
« on: Tuesday 20 April 21 10:50 BST (UK)  »
Hi there - I have a Stanley Zike in the 1918 Absent Voters List and his Service Description is recorded as: 5080 R.F.A. (see photo).

Can anybody tell me, in this case, is the R.F.A. the Royal Field Artillery or the Royal Fleet Auxiliary - and whichever it is, are there any records that I can view online to help try and discover Stanley’s town or parish of birth (he was from Russian Poland).

Thanks for any advice.

Hi there - I have the Catholic Church Register entry and the Civil Registration Marriage Certificate for two ancestors who were born in Russian Poland (1911 census info) and married in Leeds in 1904. The marriage states both fathers’ names and occupations, but I’m trying to find the birth location of both parties in order to access Polish records and try and trace the families back. I also have actual birth dates (from the 1939 Register).

I notice that on the civil Marriage Certificate, it states ‘married according to the rights and ceremonies of the Roman Catholics by Certificate...’

Did the two parties have to fill out any further documentation at the registrar’s office that may state their birth locations and if so, can I search them? Or are there any immigration or Alien records that I can access?

Any advice as to how I go about tracing their birth locations would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi there - I had a relative who died in 1920 aged 17 of Influenzal Pneumonia (Spanish ‘Flu?).
His address was given as “The Victoria Home, Motherwell”.
Can anybody tell me where this was situated and whether it was an orphanage or a working man’s hostel?
Thanks.

Hi there - I'm trying to identify the uniform that this person is wearing (Royal Navy?) and also if the number written on the back in pencil could be a service number?
Thanks in anticipation...

Armed Forces / Help Identify A Uniform
« on: Sunday 26 April 20 16:29 BST (UK)  »
Hi there - I need help identifying two uniforms from a painting please.

I don’t have any idea what era they are, or what nationality. The two subjects are both in the same painting (of a field hospital). One looks like an injured serviceman and the other looks like a chaplain or padre, giving water to an injured man.

If somebody could identify the uniforms / era / nationality, it would help me identify the painting.

Thanks for your help.
