Warwickshire / Robertson’s of Halesowen & Bham
« on: Sunday 24 October 21 07:37 BST (UK)  »
Hello there! I have been researching my family history for a couple of years, but hit a few brickwalls and lost motivation for a while. So trying a different approach - and back to the Robertson’s

I have traced back from Staffordshire to Halesowen on the Robertson branch of my tree, with a degree of certainty. I wanted to see if anyone could help with details or more local information. Surely there are records confirming more here…

My 3x GG Charlotte Robertson b1821-d1859 (had Ernest Edwin illegitimately) from Halesowen. I have her death notice as "DEATHS: "On 18th ult, aged 38 years.Charlotte, daughter the late Mr. Isaac Needham Robertson, Hales Owen. On the 24th ult, aged 26 years. Benjamin M. Robertson, youngest son the late Mr. Isaac Needham Robertson, of Hales Owen." Brum Journal

Issac Needham Robertson's father was REV ROBERT ROBERTSON 1763–1824 (BIRTH OCT 1763 • Halesowen, Worcester) who is named as School Master of Halesowen Free Grammar School. He married a FRANCES BISSELL
1763–1827 (BIRTH 23 OCT 1763 • Halesowen, Worcester)

I believe His father is Robert Robertson (b Jun 1740 also of Halesowen) and his father William Robertson (no birth but have death as 1751 in Halesowen!) would love to keep Going!

I believe most are buried at St John the Baptist? I’m trying to go further back!  help how can I verify more? Or make sure all this is right?

I have death Certs and wedding certs for Charlotte and Edwin - and Isaac

Armed Forces / Military Issue Spoon & Watch
« on: Thursday 09 July 20 12:32 BST (UK)  »
Hello all,

I have had 2 military items come into my possession in the last week. My Nan (97!) has gone into a home and her house is being sold - my aunts and uncles have been quite selfish in all this, and taken most of the items despite me being the family history geek! Anyway.

I don't THINK they belong to my Granddad or G Grandad, but there is a spoon (attached) with the engraving 164275 - is it WW1 or 2? I am guessing that service number and I can't work out the letters.

The second is a watch (that is still ticking) that I have done some digging on....

James John Weaver.
He was born 14th April 1881 in Bethnal Green, London
12453 was his service number.
Royal Marines Light Infantry
HMS Canada Portsmouth Division (10/8/15 - 3/8/19)
His enlistment was 6th June 1902.

I am not sure the link to my family!

Is anyone able to date this picture of my 1st Cousins 2 x removed?

I think James Frizell , the older boy was b.1918 and the girl Sarah Frizell b1915! Their parents - Isabella Hunter and James Frizell emigrated to Queensland,  ;D Oz in October 1914 the day after they married.

Unsure of their younger brother/sister name!

Thank you!

Northumberland / Hunters, Charltons and Piggs
« on: Sunday 01 April 18 08:04 BST (UK)  »
I just wanted some help to check if I’m getting the right families here, some parish registers would have me believe that I’m on the right track but I’m not entirely convinced. I know I will need to order some certificates to prove but wanted someone to help iron out this - or connect if they have similar research! I hope this makes sense, just let me know if you need other info!

My 3rd GGPs on the Hunter side....

George Hunter (B. March 20, 1845, in Colwell, Northumberland) possibly to Jane Heddon and Robert Hunter.

He married Isabella Pigg (born in 1834 in Keepershield, Northumberland) possibly to Jane Forster and Roger Pigg.

Jane is older than George possibly with her son Thomas.

Isabella Pigg and George Hunter’s wedding is possibly in Hexham, Northumberland in July 1868.

Through the late 1800s and early 1900s I have Isabella and George living at the colliery in West Cramlington and then him at the secretary of the Coop in Cramlington and it seems they lived there too? I’ve got the same family through the census’ until 1911 and George and Isabella are still in Cramlington. But not got deaths for them.

Then on to Their son Thomas, who is my direct line 2GGF is....

Thomas Hunter/Pigg (Corbridge,
Northumberland) b Oct 1865 - d?

- on one census he’s listed as George’s stepson and birth I have is before his wedding to Isabella so could be the son of someone else. They have other children Jane, John and George W listed as children not step.

Thomas Hunter then Married Margaret Jane Charlton January 1887 in Hexham Northumberland.

Margaret Jane Charlton (Broomhaugh, Northumberland) b Jul 1867 - d Possibly during WW2 as my great grandmother returned to Northumberland to care for her while my Nan was in the Land Army

In 1939 they are Living at High Dyke Cottage, Alston , Haltwhistle R.D., Northumberland - and widowed daughter Sarah and two other people.

I’d like to get deaths for Margaret and Thomas for sure and hopefully find out more about Cramlington etc. And just to see if you think I’m on the right wavelength here!! My tree is ‘Robertson family research’ on Ancestry!

Thank you in advance!

England / The Robertson's of the Midlands!
« on: Sunday 07 January 18 10:18 GMT (UK)  »
Happy New Year....

So I have been working hard last autumn and put down my family tree for a few months, but with a new subs and motivation, I can’t avoid it any longer, and need to break some brick walls down, but first I am trying to verify that I have the correct family line on my Robertson side. I need help checking back and seeing if I am on the right lines if people fancy a challenge!

What do I know FOR SURE?

My Great Grandfather, Albert Robertson (Stafford, Staffs) b1889 - d1965, was married 25.11.18 in Stafford to Violet May Doughty (Stafford, Staffs) b1892 - d1959

Albert’s parents were Ernest Edwin Robertson (West Brom, Staffs) b1854 - d1936 who was Married 21.01.1886 Ladywood, Warwickshire to Jane Pointon (Stafford, Staffs) b1854-d1936

I have certificated for everything up until Ernest’s BMD but this is where it gets more complicated, because Charlotte Robertson b1821-d1859, from Halesowen had Ernest illegitimately. When she died Edwin, her brother, looks to have taken in Ernest and then appears on the marriage certificate of Ernest and Jane as his father.

From newspapers and Charlotte’s death certificates etc. I also believe Charlotte’s father was Issac Needham Robertson, born July 1795 in Harborne, Staffordshire, England and died 7th June 1856 Birmingham, Warwickshire.

I THINK that Issac was married to Mary Ann Morrell (1801 – 1838) and their children were; (in order of birth); Susannah Mascall, Charlotte, Mary Ann, Edwin, Robert, Benjamin Mascall, Frances and Sarah.

Issac’s death certificate states that he died at the workhouse in Birmingham, aged 61 on 7th June 1856. I don’t know if he married again after Mary’s death?

I then have Issac’s parents as Rev Robert Robertson (1763-1824) and Frances Bissell (1763 – 1827) both around the Harborne, Halesowen and Edgbaston areas. It’s from here I want to check I have the right families….I have their children (in order of birth) as; Robert, Rev William Arch Lee, Mary, Isaac Needham, Thomas, John, Anna Bradford.

It seems like a massive fall from grace for a Rev. son to have such a tarnished life, with crime etc. and then for Issacs daughter to have an illegitimate son! But it is the 1700/1800 so nothing surprises me. I just need to iron it all out – perhaps going sideways? There’s also some unique names in there and I feel like there are clues hidden!

Any help verifying or guidance is much appreciated here! My tree is also public on Ancestry 'Robertson Family Research'

Sarah.

Warwickshire / Edgbaston, Warkwickshire in the 1850s
« on: Wednesday 01 November 17 20:51 GMT (UK)  »
Hello all,

I have just got two death certificates through (on GRO PDF!) for my 4th Great Grandfather and his daughter, my 3rd Great Grandmother.

I am not familiar with Birmingham areas, but the family constantly states areas like Hareborne, West Bromwich, Halesowen, Edgbaston areas.

Isaac Needham Robertson (Born 1795) died in 1856 in the workhouse, Birmingham according to his death certificate. In the district of All Saints. Was there just the one workhouse at the time? In 1851 I think I have him as a lodger in Sandy Lane, Edgbaston, Kings Norton.

His daughter, Charlotte Robertson (Born 1821) died 18th March 1859. Unmarried address is 66 Lee Bank Road, Edgbaston, Warkwickshire.  She died having had 'Psoas abscess 3 years' and Phthisis Pulmonalis [consumption or pulmonary tuberculosis] 6 months.

Prior to the address given at death in 1859, In 1841 have Charlotte Living on Bridge Street West, in the parish of St George in Birmingham next to her grandmother Mary Morrel with siblings. Could be in the same house or neighbours. In 1851 she seems to be Living With widowed grandmother mother Ann Merrell at Court No 2 Great Barr Street and a pattern tie stitcher

I know from certificates that Charlotte had my 2nd GGF Ernest Edwin illegitimately in 1854.

I just want to see if anyone knows more about these areas at the time? I think they might poss be slum type areas?

Thank you!

The Common Room / Help with old legal document - Robertson family of Halesowen
« on: Monday 18 September 17 19:00 BST (UK)  »
Hello. I've got a confusing document I need help breaking down into the correct members of my Robertson family. I think I'm on the right lines but struggling - and could do with some help.

It's relating to the Robertsons around Halesowen in late 1700s to mid 1800s

http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/17febb47-8e2a-41d4-b24a-d7c34fe99475

My tree is on Ancestry 'Robertson family research' - and I've added the people I think it refers to.

Help! I've been reading over and over for about 2 days! Thank you!
