Sligo / Thomas Kilmartin of Tubbercurry
« on: Monday 03 March 14 00:38 GMT (UK)  »
Hello I am trying to find some information on Thomas Kilmartin of Tubbercurry I am not sure if this is the right spelling as I have seen it spelt Tobercurry as well.
Thomas Kilmartin was born about 1857 he seems to have left Ireland sometime before 1890 and ended up in Manchester where he died in 1933 according to his marriage certificate his father was James Kilmartin occupation Farmer, the certificate gives no details of his mother.
thank you

Hello I was wondering if some one who may have a few moments to spare at the Bristol Record Office could look up some marriage details for me.
The marriage is that of Emma Stratton and Robert Long and took place on 25 December 1841 at St Phillip and Jacob, Emma's father's name was Thomas Stratton, I would be very interested if some one could tell me what Thomas Stratton's occupation was, whether he was deceased or not ( bit of a long shot, but I believe it was sometimes recorded ) and the names of a witnesses.
Thanks very much

Armagh / Best and McCord families of Bocombra/Seagoe
« on: Tuesday 11 May 10 03:35 BST (UK)  »
Hello I am trying to find out some more info on my Best ancestors, I know very little of them, they seem to come from the Bocombra Seagoe Portadown area, there was a James Best born probably in the early 1800s his wife's name was Jane and they had 3 children that I know of ( I am sure there would have been others) namely Mary b about 1841 d about 1914, Anne Jane b 1849 d 1878 and Emma or Eliza.
Mary Best married John McCord on the 03/08/1875 in Portadown and they had 2 sons John Ritchie McCord b 1878 and Thomas David Best McCord b 18/03/1881 at Bocombra.
Anne Jane Best married a Joseph Somerville in 1875 at Portadown and went to New Zealand where she died in 1878.
I think James Best died in the 1850s and that his wife may have remarried to a man called Thomas Hall.
Thany you

The Common Room / How old did you have to be to be considered a man in the 1490s
« on: Monday 08 March 10 02:43 GMT (UK)  »
This is a two pronged question, I had an ancestor called Sir Richard Ratcliffe who fought in the Battle of Bosworth ( I think Aug 1483 ) unfortunately for Sir Richard  he was on the wrong side and he also killed.
He was promptly Attainted, I assume this means his land and titles etc foreited to the crown and that his family also lost their rights to the land.
Sir Richard had a son called Richard who had the Attainter removed some ten years later, but I think this Richard would have still been quite young maybe only 16 to 18 he may have even been younger , or could some one else have had the attainter removed on his behalf?
sorry about the long windness of the question.
Thanks Dav
