Devon / Best place to look?
« on: Wednesday 24 March 10 14:22 GMT (UK)  »
I'm hoping to travel to Devon next week to do a bit of research after a long spell away from it.

My Brooks ancestors go back to the 1500s in Combe Martin so obviously i would like to go there for a look around but i do want to try to view some parish records etc while im there.

If i remember correctly there is a records office in Barnstaple? but would i be better off going to the main records office in Exeter?  someone once advised me i would be better off there as that is where the Bishops Transcripts are.  I'd be gratefull for any info or suggestions as to where my time would be best spent.

Also if anyone can say if either of these places are closed on particular days of the week and do i have to register in advance to be able to use the facilitiies there?

All help appreciated,

Delyth :)

The Common Room / Am I reading this correctly?
« on: Thursday 13 March 08 15:46 GMT (UK)  »
On my Gt Gt Grandmother's birth certificate her mother's name is given as Hannah Lloyd late Daniel formerly Rees.

I've taken this to mean she was born Hannah Rees, first married a Mr Daniel, then re-married and became Lloyd.

Am I right? ::) Just want to double check  :)

Carmarthenshire / Black Lion Inn, Llansawel
« on: Saturday 08 March 08 11:04 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, Can anyone pass on any info about this pub please?

My Gt Gt Grandmother gives it as her residence at time of marriage (1856).  The family certainly dont own it, she must have been working & living there.

I have googled it and it seems to still be open.  Does anyone know what its like?

Also, just to be sure - is it a different Black Lion in Abergorlech? That came up in a few search engine results, need to make sure I visit the right one if there are 2 in close proximity!!

Thanx, Delyth.

Glamorganshire Lookup Requests / Bettws baptism look up request
« on: Thursday 14 February 08 19:03 GMT (UK)  »
I have a request!

I'd like the baptism details of my ggg grandmother if possible. Her name was Ann Williams and she was born c1811 in Bettws, daughter of Philip Williams & Sarah Isaac.

I've seen Karren's offer to look up Bettws records on the Lookup Offer section so here's hoping....  :D

My Gt, Gt, Gt Grandparents William & Hannah Lloyd lived there during 1830s 1840s.

I was wondering if anyone could give me any information about it or knows if there are any old photographs of it in any books etc.....

Here's hoping!
