Europe Resources & Offers / Immigration/Naturalization/Loyalty Oaths England 1745-1763

I am looking for two guys--carvers & guilders--to came to London from Paris sometime between 1745 and 1756. By 1763 both were in Philadelphia where they spent the rest of their lives and died. I am assuming they had naturalization papers or whatnot in London, as they did not sign Oaths of Allegiance or other documents when they arrived in Philadelphia or thereafter. Where would I look?

Quaker Family History / Verbiage used in marriage intentions
« on: Thursday 23 February 17 02:24 GMT (UK)  »
In the Quaker minutes from 18th century Philadelphia there a statement that Henry and Mary intend to marry "for the first time to each other" but their family members who gave their permission were HIS mother-in-law and her father.

Am I missing something here?

Immigrants & Emigrants - General / Immigrants to London circa 1730-1763

I am trying to find information on two men who (working theory, anyway) came to London from France between 1730 and 1763. By 1756 one of them married in London, and in 1763 both moved to Philadelphia. The marriage license (St. Martins in the Fields) is the only proof I have that they were in London ever. I believe they were Catholic, at least, they were active members of the Catholic church here, although the marriage license is a civil one.

I read this guide and found it mystifying: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/help-with-your-research/research-guides/immigration/

...and I searched the website https://www.londonlives.org and got nothing.

They were highly skilled carvers and gilders, so I thought they needed to register somehow in order to practice their trade in the country. But I don't know where to look. There is absolutely zero information on this side of the pond (America) as to their origins.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / St. Giles in the Fields birth/baptism lookup c 1742
« on: Saturday 18 February 17 23:22 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Could someone help me out/send good karma my way? I am looking for a birth record for a Hercules Courtenay / Courteney. He was apprenticed in 1756 in St. Giles in the Fields so, assuming he was 14 years old (as was customary) I am looking at a birth year of 1742. I live in America and can't stop by the LMA. Any help or suggestions would be welcomed. Thanks.  -EM
