Lincolnshire / asylum records and 100 year rule.
« on: Thursday 25 January 18 20:30 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone know if you can get permission from a health trust to release case notes from asylums of relatives that are protected under the 100 year rule? Can you request the release personally to avoid the high cost of using third part researchers?
I have paid already to locate where a relative was from 1915 to 1917 in the asylum so I know her admission number and where she was but as her case runs right through until the 1960s I've been told I need special permission to have the files released which the researchers can do on my behalf  but obviously quite a high cost is involved. I just wondered if it was possible to request the files to be released yourself.
Also does anyone know when files still protected up to 1917 will be available to the public now it's 2018?

Lincolnshire / Grimsby town hall county court clerk job
« on: Thursday 02 November 17 21:01 GMT (UK)  »
I have a female relative aged 29 on the 1901 census as a C.C Clerk, (home town Grimsby)
Would I be correct in assuming that this stands for County court clerk and if so could  she have worked at the Town Hall in Grimsby and if so would there be records held there regarding employment? Also can anyone clarify what the job description entailed and was it likely a woman would hold this position in 1901?
thankyou

Hi I'm looking for Robert Henry Sobey born pembroke 1899.
He was in the merchant navy which he gave a false dob so must have been about 14 when he joined.
He had children in Grimsby in the 1920s with his his partner Rose Hammond. They were never married
These children were put into the Grimsby lincolnshire children's home around 1930 as their mother was put into Lincoln mental home, Robert never came to pick up the children and they remained there until adults.
After searching ancestry and find my past I cannot find any trace of him or a possible death His mother was Matilda Marion Sobey (webber, 1868-1937) his father was William Sobey (1864-1906) His mother remarried John Eden and then Albert Fielding. There is plenty of information but nothing for his death or where he might have lived after 1930
Are there other research possibilities ?
Any help much appreciated

Family History Beginners Board / ss Northenden ship 1895 Grimsby to Hamburg
« on: Tuesday 28 March 17 08:18 BST (UK)  »
Hi Im looking to find out more about the ss Northenden ship in 1895.
My 2nd G Grandfather George William Codd age 25 from Grimsby was a ships carpenter and was killed by the breaking of a wire rope that snapped when docking in the Royal Dock in 1895. I have all the press cutting from the Grimsby and hull newpapers from the British archives about the inquest (but too large to post here as a attachment.) However I want to find out more about the ship itself. He worked for the Manchester Sheffield and Lincolnshire railway company and the boat had just returned from Hamburg.
I'm interested to know what kind of ship it was what would they have been doing and what would a ships carpenter do as a job. The ships captain was George Osborne of Grimsby.
thankyou

Family History Beginners Board / lincolnshire mental asylum Ada Davis/ Grimsby
« on: Wednesday 15 March 17 10:08 GMT (UK)  »
Hi I'm stumped trying to find a death certificate and what happened to  my 2nd great grandmother
she was Ada Davis born abt 1882 (Census) Her father was the prominent port missionary of Grimsby James Davis 1849 1914 (harbour of rescue. load in the newspapers about him)

She was married to William Adkin Andrew in 1911 (seaman) she was aged about 29/30 and had a daughter Marjorie my nan in 1912. there is a possible baby born and died 1914 but until I get the birth cert I don't know if its hers. Her husband William went in the merchant navy about 1918 and moved to Belgium alone.
At some point she was put into a mental asylum and my nan was raised by family.
I know she stayed in the mental home until death and I believed she may have lived until about 80 years old.
I only know it was a lincolnshire asylum probably Lincoln maybe boston. I would like to find at least a death certificate for her and where she might have been and why she was detained all her life. Presumable she was alright for the first 30 years of her life. she resided with her father at the mission house in Grimsby upto 1911 census but after that I have nothing else.
I hope someone might be able to shed some light. Seems strange she disappeared of the radar.

« on: Wednesday 08 March 17 01:06 GMT (UK)  »
Hi I'm looking for any information on Augustus Huxford born 1890 and his career.
He was married to Eva Davis, daughter of James Davis port missionary of Grimsby.
I am interested as my grandmother was brought up by him from being a small child from around 1912 onward. Her name was Marjorie Andrew daughter of Ada Davis, sister of Eva. (All deceased)
Especially interested if any one in the family remembers her as a young girl and any family photos etc
