Carmarthenshire / Evan Evans, Myddfai
« on: Sunday 22 May 22 16:48 BST (UK)  »
Good Afternoon
I would appreciate some assistance please,  if possible.  For years, I have been searching for a member of the Evans family living in Myddfai. It is a complicated branch of my tree and I have found evidence to support most of the family apart from one - Evan Evans, ( b. 1867- 1870, in Myddfai) allegedly born to Morgan Evans  and his wife Mary Hughes (m. 1868).  Morgan, born illegitimately and no clear connection with the surname Evans, had a short life (1838 -1872).  Between him and Mary they had three children
Gwen,1868, in Myddfai
Rachel, 1871, in Myddfai. My direct line.
Evan ? He appears in the 1871 Census, aged one and noted as a son of the couple.
In the 1881 Census, he is living in Myddfai with his paternal grandmother, Gwen Harries ( nee Morgan).  I cannot find him on any other Census and the GRO does not have a birth associated with the maternal surname Hughes in Llandovery.  Mary Hughes registered all the births of her children and if Evan is her child, why is he not treated the same?

Some extra detail
Prior to the marriage, Mary had a daughter, Margaret Hughes in 1863, father is a George Greening.
After Morgans death, Mary goes on to have two more illegitimate children:
Mary Hughes, born in Myddfai in 1874
David Evans,  born in Myddfai in 1877
Mary then gets married to a William Williams in 1884 and has two more daughters
Elizabeth born in 1884
Anne born in 1885.

Would anyone be able to enlightenment as to why I cannot find Evan please?
Thank you.

Carmarthenshire / Mary Anne Price (or not as the case may be)
« on: Tuesday 20 June 17 10:34 BST (UK)  »
Dear all
I would very much appreciate your assistance in how I go about clarifying my Grandmother's maiden name please.

My grandmother Mary Anne Price was born on the 30/10/1892 in Myddfai, Carmarthenshire as noted in the 1901 Census for Devynnog,  Breconshire. In the 1911 Census she is recorded as living in Myddfai.  The Registration District is Llandovery.  Mary Anne's dob has been confirmed by members of my family. The family for generations lived in the Myddfai area.

Mary Anne was born to Rachel Evans who married Samuel Price in 1896 four years later than her birth. I have a noted a small number of Mary Anne's born in the last quarter of 1892 but apart from purchasing birth certificates what else am I able to do?
Thank you.

Family History Beginners Board / Mary and Ann Powell

I am new to Rootschat but would like to ask member's for their help please. It's a long standing one for me.

I am searching for my great great grandmother Mary Powell. I presume her dob would be early to mid 1820's but I am not sure. She may have been born in Herefordshire or around the London area. But this is what info I have so far:

My great grandmother Ann Powell was born illegitimately to Mary Powell and Henry Goodsell (I can trace him) in December 1847 in Notting Hill, Middlesex.

Ann or Annie Powell marries Richard Lloyd in 1872 in Llanigon nr Hay in 1872. I have the certificates so I know this is correct,

I can track Annie and Richard's numerous children and the family's movements in Herefordshire until the couples deaths.

What I have been trying to find, and these are the gaps- are two census returns - those being 1851 and 1861 for Annie and very importantly, to track her mother Mary at all but to no avail! I cannot track Mary at all.

Annie is described on a number of census returns as being born in Hay or Llanigon and only latterly are the correct details of Notting Hill are given on the returns.
Would anyone be able to point me in the right direct please. I have to admit, this is becoming a bit of an obsession with me.
Thank you  :)
