Somerset / ARTHUR JAMES RIDLEY WW1 1915
« on: Thursday 04 April 24 16:47 BST (UK)  »
ARTHUR JAMES RIDLEY  died on 15 June 1915 after serving with the Somerset Light Infantry. Aged 29, he was the husband of Emily Ridley, 5 Strode Cottages, Street, Somerset.
Although Arthur's death was attributable to his war service he was never commemorated as a war casualty. I am trying to locate his place of burial and have his grave designated as a War Grave.
I would welcome help from anyone who may have information, however small, re his place of burial.

London and Middlesex / GEORGE EDWARD PAYTON WW1 1917
« on: Thursday 04 April 24 15:53 BST (UK)  »
GEORGE EDWARD PAYTON , aged 38, died on 9 June 1917 after having served with the Royal Garrison Artillery. His address at that time was 18 Handsworth Road, West Green where he lived with his wife Eleanor and son Leonard George. George was born in Stepney in 1879, Eleanor was born in Hoxton and Leonard in Hackney (1906).
In 1911 the family were at Handsworth Road; George was a sorter with London Postal Service. After George's death his wife and child appear to have moved to 331 Wightman Road, Hornsey.
George Edward Payton is one of the "forgotten soldiers" who died as a result of war service but was never commemorated as such. I am hoping to have his burial place designated as a War Grave.
Does anyone know where he is buried??  Any suggestions welcome.

Wicklow / THOMAS LAWLESS WW! 1917
« on: Tuesday 06 February 24 20:10 GMT (UK)  »
THOMAS  LAWLESS died on 5 Nov 1917 after serving with the Royal Dublin Fusiliers. Aged just 18, he was the son of Michael and Dora Lawless of Ballymurrin Upper, Co Wicklow. In 1911 the family were at that location -father Michael, mother Dora, and siblings John, Peter, Laurence, Mary Ellen, Sarah and Annie. Thomas died at Ballymurrin Upper from TB contracted on war service.
His mother Dora died at Ballymurrin Upper on 3 Mar 1926.
Thomas' death was attributable to his war service but, like many others, he was never commemorated as a war casualty.
Does anyone know where Thomas Lawless is buried? Any help would be appreciated.

Down / Robert McLEAN WW1 1920.
« on: Wednesday 17 January 24 14:34 GMT (UK)  »
ROBERT McLEAN (or McClean) died on 28 Nov 1920 after service with the Royal Army Service Corps; possibly earlier with Royal Irish Rifles. Aged 36,he died in Down War Hospital (Downpatrick?) but his service records state that his wife was Harriet McLean, living at Orangefield Gate Lodge, Bloomfield , Belfast. I have found no trace in the 1911 Census. Checks of the various Belfast cemeteries have produced nothing.
Does anyone have any info as to who this family were and where Robert might be buried? Does his home address suggest that he might have been a caretaker/gardener for whoever owned Orangefield Lodge at that time?
Any suggestions welcome.

Antrim / Robert James Craig STOREY WW1 1920
« on: Friday 12 January 24 12:41 GMT (UK)  »
ROBERT JAMES CRAIG STOREY died on 16 May 1920 after serving with the Machine Gun Corps. Aged 27, he was the son of Joseph and Isabella Storey (nee Craig). Robert was born at Aughalish, Randalstown (3 Mar 1892) and died at Feehogue, Randalstown. He had at least seven siblings -Mary, Agnes, Joseph, David, William, Isabella and Julia. The family were Presbyterian.
I am trying to find where Robert - one of the "Forgotten Soldiers" -is buried. His name does not appear in the records of any of the Council's cemeteries so presumably he is buried in a church graveyard around Randalstown. I would be very grateful for any information which would identify the graveyard in question.

Kilkenny / Percy KENNEDY WW1 1918 Kilkenny
« on: Thursday 16 November 23 22:22 GMT (UK)  »
PERCY  KENNEDY died on 16 March 1918 after serving with the Royal Army Medical Corps. He died in Kilkenny where his death was registered by his cousin Mary (or perhaps Margaret) Sixsmith. There is very scant information on his service records. It seems likely that he was born in Roscommon but was gone from there by the time of the 1911 census. I am told that his name appears on the war memorial ay Kilkenny's McDonagh Station.
Percy Kennedy is one of WW1's Forgotten Soldiers. Does anyone know where he may have been buried?
I would be very grateful for any help.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Gunner Albert SMITH 1920
« on: Friday 29 September 23 15:36 BST (UK)  »
Can anybody help?

Gnr ALBERT SMITH, 278206, Royal Field Artillery died on 4 Aug 1920 at the Curragh Military Hospital in Ireland. Aged about 19, he died from acute appendicitis
The website Cairo Gang.com states that he was the son of Mr and Mrs William Smith of 50 Keighley Road, Silsden and that he was buried in Silsden.
No record of this burial found so far.  BUT, on 6 Aug (2 days after Albert's death) a William Smith of that address and a son Ex-Bdr JOSEPH SMITH were buried together at St James Silsden. Joseph had also died on 4 Aug.
Looks like some confusion or mis-interpretation of data.
Can anyone throw any light on the subject?  Albert is listed on the Brookwood memorial.

London and Middlesex / HENRY WOODS, Royal Fusiliers, Ireland, 1921.
« on: Wednesday 27 September 23 15:40 BST (UK)  »
HENRY  WOODS  died on 9 June 1921 while serving in Ireland with the Royal Fusiliers, He died at Blarney Railway station as the result of an accidental discharge of a rifle. I am assuming - maybe wrongly - that he was from the London area which seems to have been the main recruitment area for the Royal Fusiliers. His service number was 6449751.
Does anyone know where Henry Woods is buried? Maybe in Ireland, maybe in the London area? Any snippets of information would be very welcome
