Galway / Finding my 4th Great Grandparents
« on: Tuesday 26 May 20 11:33 BST (UK)  »
Hello.  I recently found information about my 3rd great grandmother who came to the US from Liverpool in 1834.  According to the ship's record she arrived at Ellis Island alone.  Now I am searching for her parents.  It appears that she born in County Galway.  One map on Ancestry shows that she was born close to Banagher; however, I don't see any indication that Banagher is in Galway.

Here is the information I have about my 3rd great grandmother.  Any help is greatly appreciate.  I realize that her surname is not unique, so this could be a challenge.

Rosanna MacCormick
1818–1880
BIRTH 1818 • Ireland
DEATH AFT. 1880 • Louisville, Jefferson, Kentucky, USA

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) / Searching for Hodgson marriage in Yorkshire
« on: Friday 18 May 18 13:14 BST (UK)  »
My 6th great grandmother was Hannah Hodgson (b. 1771) who married John Tate (b. 1766). Hannah and John had 1 child, my 4th great grandfather, William (b. 1790) who married Mary Gibson.

Hannah had a brother, Isaac (b. 1777), born in Castleford, Yorkshire. Their parents were John Hodgson (1740-1830) and Bridget Ruston (b. 1740).

A cousin of mine named Eleanor Tate (1867-1934) married a man named Matthew Hodgson. Eleanor was born in Cornforth, Durham.

I have been searching for information about Isaac's marriage to see if Matthew might be one of his ancestors; however, I am having difficulty find the name of Isaac's spouse. Any assistance is appreciated.

Lancashire / Searching for family of John Hartley from Lancashire
« on: Tuesday 08 May 18 11:25 BST (UK)  »
I have been searching for information about my Hartley relatives. My 12th great grandmother was Elizabeth Hartley (1630-1709) from Warwick, Warwickshire, England. She married Nicholas Heath (1624-1696) and they had seven children, including my 11th great grandfather, James Heath (1658-1731).

Elizabeth's parents, John Hartley, Sr. and Bridget Wakefield (d. 1645) had a total of five children, Elizabeth being the oldest. Only one other child, John, Jr. (b. 1632) lived to adulthood. I would like to find more information about Bridget and John, Sr.

I wrote to the Hartley Family Project and received this response, "Based on the Hartley Project that I run, I have been able to so far discover at least a dozen totally independent, unrelated, male Hartley lines. Most Hartleys originate Lancashire and Yorkshire, so it may be your Warwickshire Hartleys come from there. Even within those counties, Hartley lines are unrelated.

So it appears most Hartleys 'adopted' the surname, ie, the Hartleys are not one big family. That being, some Hartleys are known to have adopted their name pretty late on, ie, 17thC to 19thC, and it is almost impossible to find which surname they used before that."

Does this make sense? Are Lancashire and/or Yorkshire closer enough to Warwickshire that it would be likely place for them to end up there?  I would like to find information about John, Sr.'s parents and the family of Bridget Wakefield.

Somerset / Searching for family Drake Family in Somerset
« on: Wednesday 14 March 18 10:36 GMT (UK)  »
Hello. My 14th paternal great grandparents are William Drake, Sr. and Elizabeth Pople. We descend through their son, William, Jr. (b. 1613) in High Ham, Somerset, England. William, Sr. was born between 1570 and 1590; however, I have no idea where. I am interested in finding more information about this family.

William, Sr.'s great grand daughter, Mary Drake (1672-1715) is the family's first connection to North America. She and her siblings were all born in Oving, Sussex and she emigrated at some point. Her father, John Drake, Sr. (1640-1682) was the Anglican vicar in Oving when his six children were born there.

I was able to find a marriage record for William and Elizabeth via Family Search about 4 days ago; however, for the past 3 days every time I search on that site I get a message, "No Records Found....Please Try Again Later".  I'm sure what 'later' means since I've been trying over three days. I would like find some information about Elizabeth Pople, if possible.

Any information you might be able to find would be appreciated.

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) / Searching for Tate family from Yorkshire
« on: Saturday 10 March 18 14:12 GMT (UK)  »
Hello. I am searching for information about the parents and wife of Robert Tate (b. 1578) in Thirsk, Yorkshire. According to the information I've found, his wife was Anne Dougherty (no dates) and his father was John Tate (no dates).

I am beginning to think that I've gone as far back as I can with this family.  The information I mentioned above I found via FS, but then everything stopped. I do not pay money to Ancestry or FindMyPast, so I cannot find anything there.  Any information about Robert's parents and/or wife is appreciated.

These are my mother's ancestors.  I'm also searching for my father's ancestors around the same time period in Warwickshire and many of the records I've found are completely illegible.  It's impossible to read any information at all.  I am both delighted and surprised that I've been able to go this far back into our family history.

Northumberland / Searching for Tate family from Northumberland
« on: Wednesday 28 February 18 09:07 GMT (UK)  »
Hello. I have collected various pieces of information about my ancestor Gmelin Tate (born c. 1811) who says in the censuses that he was born in Guizance/Guyzon in Northumberland. As His father, William, is recorded as a carpenter and weaver. There is no actual information about Gmelin before his marriage. After that there is a full record through censuses and even a notification that Gmelin was a shoemaker and managed a shop in an area of Sunderland.

I would like to be able to confirm that William really is his father and who his mother is. Most of my Tate relatives are from Yorkshire and I am trying to find the link between this branch of the family and my Yorkshire branch. I've reached a brick wall at Family Search and do not pay money to Ancestry.

Northamptonshire / Searching for Elizabeth Jackson from Northamptonshire
« on: Friday 09 February 18 12:02 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for information about Elizabeth Jackson (b. 1766) who married John Gibson, Sr.. According to the information I found, Elizabeth was originally from Northamptonshire and married John in Yorkshire.

Elizabeth's parents were Richard and Mary (Voce) Jackson. I have no information about either of them, except for their names. I would like to know where Richard, Mary, and Elizabeth were born and when, regarding Richard and Mary, (if possible).

I have searched on FamilySearch and Geni, but have found nothing. I don't pay money to Ancestry or FindMyPast, so that's not helpful either.  Any assistance is appreciated.
