The Common Room / Searching for William Wayman (Weyman)
« on: Saturday 27 January 18 12:21 GMT (UK)  »
John Wayman was born in Greenwich in 1814, parents given on his death certificate in 1881 as William Wayman, a signalman in the Royal Navy and Ann Craig. Ann, I believe was born in 1765 in Neilston, Renfrew. William and Ann were married in Greenock in 1797 with their early family, William (1800) and Mary (!804) born in Greenock. A later sibling Robert was also born back in Greenock, making it seem likely that William (father) was in the Navy for a time. Family notes recall William as operating a sloop carrying provisions in the Firth of Forth area, so again a sea faring link. A William Weyman is listed on the forces records website as serving on the HMS Cornwallis in 1810, however the Cornwallis served in the Far East and only returned to the UK in 1814. This casts doubt on the John birth date of Feb 1814.

Question, does anyone else have any connections to this family? I have been unable to find a likely birth for William the older in either the IGI files or the Scottish records.
