Carmarthenshire / Wilding - Llangadog
« on: Wednesday 12 January 22 03:06 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Is there any way I could locate a cottage in Llangadock / Llangadog. The cottage is called Rose Cottage and keeps cropping up in various Wilding members records so I assume it was in the family for a period of time. Just curious if its still standing. Also is there a way of locating cemeteries, I have discovered both George and Mary Wilding (siblings) were buried in Llangadog in 1930 and 1950 respectively. I have the burial record but it doesn't indicate a specific cemetery. I only live 30mins away so would be nice to visit and pay my respects. - richard

Family History Beginners Board / George James
« on: Thursday 09 January 20 03:43 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I was wondering if anyone can see any reference to George James's (b 1908) father or Mothers maiden name. The marriage I'm looking at is in 1920 to Nellie V Nicklin in Staffordshire. I'm trying to make certain he's the correct George James as there are quite a few born the same time in the same area. I can't seem to find any details of the marriage other than the date and the participants. I was hoping to see the mothers maiden name or grooms father etc, without purchasing the cert, which I will do if I'm fairly certain its my George James

Thanks in advance for any advice or info - richard

Family History Beginners Board / Jessie Louise Thorne
« on: Friday 30 August 19 03:58 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I've got a bit of a mystery which I hope someone can help shed some light on, Jessie L Thorne married Jack Brooks in Oct qtr 1929, he was in the merchant Navy and was lost when his ship was sunk by a U-Boat in 1941, Jessie then married Frederick Oswald Piller in July qtr 1942. She was then killed herself during an air raid on London in 1944. So far all pretty clear, so my query is why when I found her on the 1939 register her name was Jessie Piller, she was still married and living with Jack Brooks on that register, is it a simple typo or something else I'm missing.

Incidentally Frederick Pillers  1939 registers entry  states him as single, at a different address. Thanks in advance - Richard

World War One / George William Day and Henry John Day
« on: Tuesday 20 August 19 03:02 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I've relatively recently discovered 2 relatives who served and unfortunately fell during WW1. They were George William Day who fell on 26/09/1916 and is named on the Thiepval memorial, his service number was R22682 Kings Royal Rifles Corp and his brother Henry John Day who fell on the 20/4/1918, and is buried at Longeau British Cemetery near Amiens. He served with the London Regiment and his service number was 423437.

I'm planning a trip to both Thiepval and Longeau in the near future and was wondering if I could get any more information on both these gentlemen. I know most records from WW1 were destroyed.

Many thanks in advance,

Richard

Staffordshire / Alice Davies
« on: Friday 12 April 19 20:48 BST (UK)  »
I've got myself into a bit of a muddle with a family descendant. I'm looking for the birth record and parents of Alice Davies (Davis) b1885, I have her wedding cert in 1907 to Charles (Henry) Jinks where helpfully it gives her age as 22yrs as opposed to "of full age etc". I also have her birthday as recorded on the 1939 register as 17/1/1885, which ties in nicely with her age on her marriage cert. Her father is recorded as William Davies on the wedding cert, but struggling to get a register of her birth and her mothers maiden name. Can't seem to locate her for certain on either the 1891 or 1901 census's either. This is all based in and around Stoke upon Trent or Staffs. The address for the 1939 entry is 1 Duncan Street, Stoke on Trent, and her and Charles are transcribed as Jinnks. Thanks for any help in advance as usual. - richard

Canada / Canada
« on: Wednesday 10 April 19 02:50 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I found out yesterday that 2 of my Great Grandmothers sisters moved to Canada at the beginning of the 20th Century, prob around 1904, am I able to find out any further information as to what ship they sailed on or why?  They were Elizabeth Wilding b1889 and Emily Barbara Wilding b1882 and they sailed to Ottawa, Ontario. It looks as though they married a pair of brothers or cousins. Any advice gratefully received as always. Richard

Family History Beginners Board / Elizabeth Rees - 1872 Llangadock
« on: Friday 05 April 19 00:51 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I'm hoping someone is able to confirm my thoughts around Elizabeth Rees. She is the key to my maternal line which I've gone back to 1776. I just need to be as certain as I can be she is the correct person, then I'm fairly certain everything else is correct. She married my Great Great Grandfather William Richards on 21/11/1891, she was the Mother of John Henry Richards who was born in 1894. I believe her parents were William Rees b1843 & Margaret Morgans b1844. My slight confusion is when looking for a birth cert for Elizabeth there are 2 born in the same year, 1873 1 in qtr 1 and 1 in qtr 4, the second birth is Elizabeth Ann Rees. So I obviously thought it would be the first birth in qtr 1, however both births have the mothers maiden name of Morgans. This is a rural agricultural area so fairly sparsely populated. Is this a coincidence or did Margaret Morgans have 2 daughters within a 12mth period and call them both Elizabeth  ??? ???  Incidentally Elizabeth Ann died 3 yrs later in 1876. The location is Llangadock, Carmarthenshire. Would appreciate any observations or opinion. I'm going to buy both birth certs anyway but just curious if I'm missing something. - Many thanks  for reading my long winded message - Richard

Family History Beginners Board / occupation
« on: Saturday 30 March 19 02:10 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, whilst looking at a family census , the husband and wife are both showing as butter forol and egg merchants. Anyone know what "forol" is ?  I've looked online but can't find any references. I've also looked at the actual image and  the word forol isn't 100% clear, but does look like it. Can anyone think of something it could be if not forol. The census is 1901. They are William Rees, 1843, Margaret Rees 1842, Eleanor Rees 1885, from Llangadock. Thanks in advance.
