Lancashire / Location of a Baptist Chapel in the district of Rochdale
« on: Tuesday 12 September 23 15:26 BST (UK)  »
Please can you help?
I have a marriage certificate (1847) for John Brearley and Mary Butterworth. They give their residence at the time of marriage as Millers (or Millen) Street, Haywood and Hooley Bridge near Heywood.
The certificate says,  The Baptist Chapel, and what could then read, Holt St, but the writing is unclear.
Does anyone have any local knowledge
Many thanks

Breconshire / Abode in Llandewi Abergwesyn
« on: Friday 26 May 23 14:53 BST (UK)  »
Hello
I am looking at a parish baptism for my 2nd great grandmother (Leah Jones) who was baptised in Llandewi Abergwesyn on 16th October 1824 to parents Richard and Leah.
The abode reads (I think) as 'Gribinrydd', but I'm struggling to find it or reference to it.
I wondered if anyone with more local knowledge could help please?

World War Two / Ambrose Massey, Royal Artillery Territorial Army
« on: Monday 16 May 22 16:08 BST (UK)  »
Hello again
I am putting together an application to request my relatives service records.
I have information from his marriage certificate in 1941, and have tried to check this out before I sent off the application on Ancestry and FindMyPast.  Nothing is coming up, and I wondered if this was common?
He was Ambrose Massey born 1907, and his marriage certificate says Bombardier; Royal Artillery; no 2041762. My grandmother told me many years ago that he was in the territorial army.
Any advice greatly appreciated

Glamorganshire / 1871 Census Lower Merthyr Tydfil
« on: Friday 15 April 22 17:13 BST (UK)  »
Hello  :) please can you help as I am stuck trying to read occupation information on the census sheet (Piece 5393, Folio 14, Page 11) for the following person:
Edward Lewis - Head, aged 62 (1809), married, born Merthyr, Glamorgan living at Ponty Gwaith The Work Bridge Farm. (His wife Hanah aged 55 (1816), and son Isaac aged 15 are with him).
It says, Farm Servant, 30 acres, for Mr William P (?e or i)(?d) ???.  So could be saying Mr William (then a surname starting with P) or Mr Williams (then the name of a place starting with P)
I'm assuming 'Mr' from the way the 'M' in Merthyr is written on other parts of the census sheet, and 'William' from the same names on the page.
There aren't any clues from other census, for the same address to help me.
I have attached a snip, but probably needs to be looked at in the whole census image.
If you can help, I would be very grateful.
Thanks

World War Two / Location of 15th Light A.A. Brigade R.A. (T.A.) - 41st Battery
« on: Saturday 05 March 22 21:14 GMT (UK)  »
Hello
I am following the WW2 service of Gunner Harding 1433809(attested in the Isle of Man) from some newspaper articles in the Manx Newspaper Archives.
One of the articles says he was posted in November 1938 to the 41st Battery. I know he was posted to England, and I've tried to work out where this would have been?
Can anyone help me work out where this unit could have been from 1938-42
Thanks
Margaret

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Can I narrow down my DNA connection
« on: Wednesday 26 January 22 20:23 GMT (UK)  »
Hello :)
I have an unknown Ancestry DNA match at 144cm. I have managed to connect 3 more unknown DNA matches, to the 144cm one, and have put them into a 'new tree' to act as a reference.
I have snipped this 'new tree' family structure showing the DNA matches with amount of cm (attached).
The position of the largest DNA match is making me think that my focus for a connection is 'B Boy' born 1894, but would appreciate thoughts on this.
Hope I am making sense, as it is starting to puddle my brain  :)

Herefordshire / Help reading birthplace on 1851 census - COMPLETED
« on: Wednesday 15 December 21 09:34 GMT (UK)  »
Hello  :)
I've managed to get past a brick wall by finding the marriage between Elinor Morgan (b.1785) and John West (b.1792) in Hay, Breconshire on 15 June 1819.
I can find them in the 1841 census in Cardiff, and then 1851 in Claines, Worcestershire (with their daughter Martha born 1821 in Caerleon).
Elinor/Elenor gives her birthplace as maybe "........ upon the ......" Hereford, but I'm afraid I'm stuck, please can you help. I have attached a snip.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Man in tanktop and tie - Brecon
« on: Saturday 27 June 20 19:52 BST (UK)  »
Hello, please can you help me date this image?
It was in my aunts photos, and we assume he is a relative, so dating could help narrow it down.
The photo has no marks on the rear, and seems to be a copy. It is slightly shiny on the photo surface.
I am estimating his age as in his 40s, but would welcome your views.
Many thanks
