My Mother in law has requested me to tidy up and remove the man from the centre of this photo (and his hands on the shoulders of the ladies)  but I am making a mess of it so far. Any help will be gratefully received. No need for colour. Thanks again
I do have a larger file that may be sent to anyone who needs it for easier repair.

This photo is in a bad way! My mother in law requested me to restore it but it is way beyond my meagre capabilities. I would appreciate any attempts to remove some of the awful creases. No need for colour.
I do have a larger file available that I can send to interested restorers if necessary.
Thanks in advance

Ireland / A question about nicknames
« on: Wednesday 15 August 07 10:37 BST (UK)  »
I have for years been searching for an Aunt Meta O'Doherty. I know that her family had a habit of using their second names or even changing names.... for instance My dad was called "Joe", his shortened second name and his sister Mary Agnes was called Nancy. (Since discovered this is a common alternate name for Agnes)

Anyway, I have recently discovered a "Margaret" also called "Meta". Can ayone tell me if this a common nickname (in use in Ireland) for Margaret as this might give me a lead if my Meta's real given name is actually Margaret.
Thanks

Antrim Completed Look up Requests / ? Irish school taught Prepositions
« on: Saturday 16 September 06 01:24 BST (UK)  »
I posted this message on the General Irish forum and I think this is where Chris suggested I post it also..... ?Belfast forum
see
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,183178.0.html

It is a queer question I know but here goes....

My Father, born 1921 in Strabane, Tyrone and educated there and in Portstewart, Derry was taught a list of all the Prepositions at school. He would recite them in one long list, never changing the order and he never forgot them. He always said them too fast for me to learn them or even to write them down.
I'd like to write them down in the same order he used to recite them, in an album with his photo as a lad.
I am hoping it was something taught in schools in Ireland and there will be someone out there who is still around that might be a little daft like my Dad and has remembered the list.
Here's hoping

Ireland / Prepositions!

This may not be a question suitable for this forum but as it is the General Irish page maybe there is someone lurking who may be able to help me? It is a queer question I know but here goes....

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / A clean up please.
« on: Wednesday 16 August 06 05:45 BST (UK)  »
This is my beloved Nan again.
I keep messing this one up trying to clean it up and give George a complete right shoulder and arm! Can anyone out there give it a go please?
Heaven knows what they were thinking when they dressed the dog up in bandanna, hat and pipe! It makes me laugh every time I look at this one.... so posed yet they didn't bother to tidy up the background.
Thanks

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Technical help please
« on: Monday 07 August 06 06:24 BST (UK)  »
I am in the process of scanning all the family photos of my sister, for her daughter to put into an album for her. There are some lovely shots but this one has me stumped.
I have one photo (the one and only copy I might add) of my sister in her 20's in a bikini. Trouble is there have been so many fights getting the photo out of her hands before she destroys it that it is somewhat the worse for wear.
I attach a segment showing the type of damage. I can't seem to repair it without still getting lines across her legs. I am just using the clone tool. It looks a mess when I try.
Any suggestions gratefully accepted.
Thanks
Jackie

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / In need of some repair please
« on: Sunday 06 August 06 02:28 BST (UK)  »
This is a photo of my Dad and his sister taken in Ireland...probably around 1930. It is in need of some restoration... It is in need of some cleaning up please.
It is only a small photo but I have scanned it at 600dpi and reduced the size to fit on here but I  have a much clearer one I can send through by email if anyone wants it.
Thanks in anticipation
Jackie
PS I remember visiting my Grandfather in the 50's and these chickens (or rather, their decendants) used to scare the wits out of me!

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Software advice please
« on: Thursday 03 August 06 13:02 BST (UK)  »
After spending some time here and learning as I go, I think I may need to upgrade my software. My family bought me Adobe Elements 2 a few years ago and it was quite adequate for what I thought I needed.
However, there seem to be quite a few things discussed that my program does not have. Like "curves"??  :-\
If I want  to put in an order to the family for my next birthday...what would be the experts' suggestions?
Thanks
Jackie
