Midlothian / Portobello Primary School 1937- COMPLETED, thanks
« on: Wednesday 12 December 12 16:35 GMT (UK)  »
I wonder if someone could please satisfy my curiosity? From 1937 to about 1942, I attended Portobello Primary School which was located either on Stanley St. or Park Ave., just south of Southfield Place. I looked for it the last time I was "home" and found it, or rather the outside walls of it, embedded in a new structure that looked like perhaps a seniors residence or what is referred to in Canada as a condominium project.

Can anyone identify what it is? Thanks, Ian

Clackmannanshire / Arthur Woodburn
« on: Thursday 21 January 10 05:03 GMT (UK)  »
Arthur Woodburn, the Member of Parliament for Clackmannanshire many years ago, was a cousin of my grandmother, Elizabeth Woodburn. Is anyone on this list a descendant of Arthur Woodburn?

Thanks,
Ian Morrison

Stirlingshire / Morrisons or Kincaids from Campsie
« on: Saturday 21 March 09 21:04 GMT (UK)  »
I participated in a DNA study under Morrison but I do not have any close matches in that group. However, I am a very close match with a gentleman by the name of Kincaid who traces his ancestors to the Clachan of Campsie. In turn, he is a close match with three other Kincaids (various spellings) who also trace their ancestry to Campsie, but none of them is a close match with any other Kincaids in their project.

I have traced my Morrisons/Morisons as far back as early 18th century in the Parish of Durness, Sutherland and do not know of any that moved to Stirling. However, there were Morrisons in Campsie in the 18th century. Has anyone researched Morrison or Kincaids in that time period?

Any help or suggested sources of research would be appreciated.

Midlothian / John Morrison 1901 census, Edinburgh
« on: Wednesday 08 October 08 12:41 BST (UK)  »
For some time I have been trying to trace my grandfather's brothers. The latest record I have of them is the 1891 census when they were all living at 2 Watson Crescent Edinburgh as follows:

John Morrison      21  Millworker
Donald Morrison  19  Coachpainter (my grandfather)
Walter                 15  Coachsmith
Henry                  12  Scholar

They were all born in Edinburgh, except my grandfather who was born in Sutherland.

I would greatly appreciate it if someone who has access to the 1901 census would try to find them.

Thanks,
Ian Morrison

Midlothian / Margaret Fleming Blyth
« on: Saturday 05 April 08 04:02 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to confirm the address at which my mother, Margaret Fleming Blyth, lived in the early 1900's. I believe she lived on St. John Street, Edinburgh, which ran/runs between the Cannongate and Holyrood Road (it is a close at the Canongate end). I can recall her telling me that she lived next to Moray House School ( a teachers college?)

Is it possible to access the 1901 census? If so, the family would be: Jacob Blyth (father) 38; Mary Baxter (Blyth) 23; Margaret (Rita) Blyth 4; and, possibly, David Blyth 1.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sutherland / Thomas MacCullloch & Margaret MacKay
« on: Thursday 14 December 06 13:16 GMT (UK)  »
The above are my 5xgreat-grandparents. Their daughter, Fairly Reay MacCulloch (b. 1788), gave birth to my 3xgreat-grandfather, Donald Morrison, out of wedlock in 1813.

Since that birth/christening entry in the Durness Parish Register, I have been unable to find any record of Fairly Reay. She had 7 or 8 siblings, all of whom were listed by Andy on page 1 of the Durness Parish Register thread. Some time after 1813. the family moved to Dalvichie , Lairg, the domicile of the husband of Ann Innes, Fairly's oldest sister, who married William Wood.

Does anyone have a connection to this MacCulloch family?

Ian
