Lanarkshire / Help!
« on: Saturday 23 April 22 19:11 BST (UK)  »
I found the RC Church marriage record of Bernard Miller to Margaret McGinlay at St Patrick's, Coatbridge on July 26th 1898, witnessed by Patrick Cunningham, Maggie Doyle and Henry Edgar.

But nothing found on the Statutory Records?  I've tried phonetic, similar spellings etc but nothing at all.

I've never come across a case like this.  Any ideas?
Thank you.

Staffordshire / 52 Marston Road, Stafford
« on: Tuesday 31 August 21 19:47 BST (UK)  »
I have a copy of a death cert, with a female living at the above address when she died in 1942.
I've checked the 1939 but can't see 52 Marston Road on there, to see if she was visiting someone.

I understand it was a workhouse?  She was assaulted (hit on the head with hammer) in 1936 London, where she had always lived.  Her son, who lived in Hoddeston, Walton (?Waltham? Cross, reported the death.
I know it is definitely her, but I'm puzzled as to why she lived in London but died at 52 Marston Road, to Stafford in 1942.  And why number 52 is not on the 1939?

(It's keeping me awake at nights  ???)

United States of America / Hubert b1888 Banbury
« on: Thursday 29 October 20 08:44 GMT (UK)  »
Is there any way I can find out why my UK ancestor was deported from New York, USA, in 1938 and in 1947?

Would he have been deported because he:
1) had lied on his 1909 US Citizenship application (false date of birth etc?)
2) had deserted the US Army (joined 1910 under false pretenses?)
3) had bigamously married a US citizen in 1926?

There is a page on
https://sites.rootsweb.com/~engcbanb/families/flowers/01.htm
but the email for the tree owner is no longer available.

There are a few photographs, and several names I'm interested in, but unfortunately not enough information (dates etc) for me to draw any conculsions.

I would really appreciate any help.

Oxfordshire Lookup Requests / Flowers family of Banbury
« on: Tuesday 13 October 20 13:13 BST (UK)  »
I'm looking for SKS to help me find more info about Hubert (Henry) Flowers b1888 Banbury and his younger brother Thomas Edward Flowers b1890 Ireland.  In the 1901, both are in the Neithrop workhouse.  Both are the sons of Hubert Henry Flowers ( ::)) b1866 Banbury.

I have their birth records and lots more about them but have been told that they are mentioned in the following books, available at Oxfordshire Libraries or their Gale Cengage.  (I can't join Oxf libraries as I don't live in the county.)

In the The "Black Sheep" series of books, the volume entitled "Wanted! Military Deserters, Apprentices and Runaways 1802-1903" (the latter of which is from "Jackson's Oxford Journal") there is mention of Hubert (I don't know if that's Hubert b1866 or Hubert b1888)

and

"Oxfordshire Workhouse Children (volume C-F)"
This book contains ONE SENTENCE about the 2 young lads, mentioned above.

(I've been told the books each cost £5+p&p, which seems a lot to pay for one sentence about them!)

I'd really appreciate help.  Thank you.

Renfrewshire / Bigamy in Barrhead
« on: Sunday 28 April 19 11:15 BST (UK)  »
I've found a 1924 Barrhead marriage which was later declared bigamous, the husband already being married.

What sort of "punishment" would the bigamist receive?  And are there any record of such?

Galway / Where is/was BELFORD
« on: Friday 15 February 19 15:01 GMT (UK)  »
After years of searching, I THINK I’ve found both my GG-Grandparents’ Irish death records.

Martin Kelly married Julia O’Dea/O’Day and had a son, John Kelly b1845.  (Martin and Julia’s names are recorded on John’s 1866 Scottish MC.)

Martin’s 1885 DC shows he died in BELFORD.  The informant of the death was John Kavanagh, also of Belford (who coincidentally was the brother and informant of the record above Martin’s).  Try as I might, I cannot find a place called Belford.

Julia, now widowed, died 1900 Cahergown/Cahergowan, the death being registered by Hugh O’DEA.
Before I start investigating any link between Hugh O’Dea to Julia, and adding them to my tree, can anyone tell me where is/was Belford?

Thank you!

Any ideas what (Catholic) school he would have attended from c1915-24?

I'd love to get his school records...I wonder if they are available from The Mitchell?

Asking on behalf of a friend:
Any idea where I can get old photos of it?  Tried the Mitchell, but no luck.

I've been told it must have been near Wigton Street (now demolished), near the Astoria picture house / Garscube Road / Possil Road.

Thanks

New Zealand Completed Requests / 1906 Death Lookup
« on: Monday 10 April 17 13:12 BST (UK)  »
Please, could anyone help me confirm the names of the parents of William Adams who died in Masterton on 2 May 1906?

I know there has been lots written about him on various websites but I think a lot of it has been copied from one website to another (grrrh!!) AND no sources have been quoted.

I'd be really grateful for any help, as I feel as though I've spent a small fortune on trying to find this info.  I suspect whoever registered the death would probably not known the names of his parents.

Thanks
