Europe / German Pre-Unification (1871) BMD oiriginal dox
« on: Tuesday 21 September 21 01:34 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I have been searching on Ancestry for the BMD documents for my Matthaus Coy and Catharina Strube  family. They all seem to be transcribed (least the ones I have seen in Ancestry), but less than a quarter of them show the original documents. These dox are in German but how do we know if the originals have first been transcribed properly in German and then translated to English? Most of the documents I am after are are German pre-unificaction period for the Karlsruhe as well as Habitzheim areas. It is very hard to find out if the original document are not shown. I am unsure if others are having the same experience?

How can this be dealt with? Is there another site that can be tapped into - FamilySearch doesnt seem to have these documents online (least not yet).

Cheers, JDC

Any help with this will be appreciated.

Tyrone / Cullen and Shillinton parents?
« on: Monday 30 August 21 02:42 BST (UK)  »
Good day all,

My ancestors James Cullen (full age) and Mary Jane Shillington (19yo) were married 24 July 1845 by licence in Clonfectlel, Tyrone, NI. Robert Cullen and James Shillington are shown ans their fathers, both farmers,  on this document. The pair moved to Portsea shortly after - I think James may have been in the forces. I am attempting to find out who their mothers were and take this family further back. Any help will be appreciated.

Cheers and hoping to hear soon, JDC

Cornwall / John Lang/Longmaid death record
« on: Tuesday 29 June 21 19:27 BST (UK)  »
Good afternoon everyone,

According to my 4G-grandparents, John Lang/Longmaid and Susanna Searle's, marriage record, John was a mariner. Susanna and her son Samuel were residing in Fowey in the 1841 census. From this info I am assuming that John was based out of Fowey, I dont know if he was a merchant or navy mariner. I am now assuming John died at sea, until proven otherwise, since I have not found him in any census. His last daughter was born in/or about 1836, baptized Oct 1836 in Fowey. I am assuming for the moment that he died about this time as well.

Where would I get a copy of his death record? I will appreciate any help with this, thx,

Cornwall / John Lang/Longmaid birth record
« on: Thursday 20 May 21 19:07 BST (UK)  »
Greetings all,

I am looking for the birth/baptism record of my 4g-grandfather John Lang/Longmaid and the names of his parents. I have found some potential parents, but none with a birth record with a son John at the right time frame.

According to the Fowey, Cornwall marriage record for him and his wife Susanna Searle in June 1816, John was of a minor age and his occupation was mariner. Hence I think he likely was born after June 1796 - unless I am wrong a minor is under the age of 21 then. It appears Susanna was a minor as well with her birth being in January 1797. The marriage witnesses were William and Jane Langmaid. I suspect one of them is a cousin.

Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

Cornwall / Elizabeth Langmaid and William Hall of Cornwall
« on: Saturday 01 May 21 12:48 BST (UK)  »
Good day,

I am looking for Elizabeth Langmaid and William Hall who married on 27 July 1840 in St Marys, Scilly, Cornwall. Elizabeth was born 1819 in Fowey, William's birthplace and date are unknown as yet, but still looking. I am guessing William was close to Elizabeth's age on the marriage doc it only say's they are both of full age and that he is a stone mason.

I am still looking for the whereabouts of this pair after their marriage. Did they stay on the islands or did they go elsewhere? I can't seem to locate where they ended up and whether or not they had children? I don't see then in the 1841 or following censuses. There seems to be a naval or military base on the island - perhaps William was part of the navy or military? Lots of unanswered questions I am attempting to answer. Any help with them will be appreciated.

Tyrone / Cullen and Shillington
« on: Thursday 17 December 20 04:07 GMT (UK)  »
Hello everyone,

I have the marriage record for my ancestors Mary Jane Shillington and James Cullen held in Clonfeacle, Tyrone, Northern Ireland the 24th July 1846. Robert Cullen and James Shillington are shown on the document as the couple's fathers.  I am looking for the couple's mothers and the birthplaces and dates of all 4 parents. I am thinking the parents were likely born in the area. James was born Nov 1822 and Mary Jane Dec 1829. After their marriage, this couple ended up living and having their children in Portsea, Hampshire.

I will appreciate any help given, thx.

Europe / Old German tranlations
« on: Monday 03 August 20 17:55 BST (UK)  »
good day everyone,

I have a few vital records which I found on Ancestry from mid 1800s from the southwestern part of Germany. I am told they are done in old German (not exactly sure what that means). But the person who told me this said it was too old for her to translate :-(

I an wondering if there is anyone that is able and willing to translate these documents? If it makes a difference, they are from the Karlsruhe area. I am now looking for vital records in the Habitzheim area. Thx in advance,

JDC
