Berkshire / croxford and crockford
« on: Saturday 29 May 10 18:14 BST (UK)  »
This is probably a silly question but here goes - One of my ancestors is Giles Dearlove who married Elizabeth Crockford in Sonning 1757. The parish records spelt her name in this way. When I have found her birth the spelling is Croxford and her parents spelt the same. The further back I go the spelling is still Croxford

Do you think I am following the wrong family now or would I be on the right track and would it depend on the literacy of the scribe who wrote the original entries

Thanks for any ideas

Regards

Berkshire / Dearlove and Adnams
« on: Saturday 01 May 10 18:43 BST (UK)  »
I have had the Bradfield parish records and found that Thomas Adnams had marriage banns read in 1813. Jane Dearlove was from Sonning and Thomas from the parish of Bradfield.

I am confused again as there are also banns for Thomas Adnams and an Ann Dearlove also in 1813 and the same months. Could this be correct?

My problem is that I can't find any reference to a Jane Dearlove being born in Sonning and after the Banns were read in Bradfield there wasn't a record of their marriage. Could they have married in Sonning? Is so could anyone help me as to which parish records Sonning comes under.

Their children Jane and Elizabeth were on the IGI as born Bradfield but the only child I could find in the records was William born in 1818

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Berkshire Lookup Requests / adnams marriage
« on: Saturday 24 April 10 18:01 BST (UK)  »
I have a Thomas Adnams married to Jane??? I have been trying to find a marriage for them without success. Have searched all parish records on line

On the 41 and 51 census they live in Liberty of Sonning, Berkshire. Janes name misspelt as Irva in the 51 census.

Their children were born in Bradfield, Berkshire and I thought I could order a childs birth cert as one child was born in 1840. I have searched for Charles Adnams  born 1840 but the only one I can find was born in Alverstoke - is this likely to be the one?

I would be happy to buy parish records but could someone advise me as to which ones I would need to purchase.

Thanks for any help and advice you can give me

Shropshire Lookup Requests / ellen maria evans ? Shropshire
« on: Monday 13 April 09 17:45 BST (UK)  »
I am unable to find a birth for Ellen Maria Evans.

She married Thomas Lawrence in 1886 in Oswestry and the marriage cert says her name was Ellen. All the census since her marriage states her name as Ellen only except the 1911 when it stated Ellen Maria. In 1911 her age was 50yrs which appears correct when checking the previous census.

The previous census stated that she was born in either Llansilin, Denbighshire(1891) or Oswestry, Salop(1901) and I can't, for the life of me decipher the place of birth on the 1911 census except that it states Salop. If I was computer literate I would try to get it on this site but I haven't any idea how to do that.

I have checked Ancestry and free BMD without success. Her father on the marriage cert was William Evans if this helps.

At the time of her marriage she was residing in Whittington and married in Oswestry

I thought I had a breakthrough when I saw the 1911 census but should have known better.

Many thanks rootschatters for any help you can give me

Denbighshire / Which parish?
« on: Saturday 25 October 08 19:06 BST (UK)  »
I need to order some parish records but need help to identify which parish I need.

I am looking to find a marriage

The couple state on the 41 census that they were born in Pentrefoelas - spelt Pentrevoelas on the census. They lived in Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr throughout the census.  The marriage would have been between 1825 and 1836 but if they married in Pentrefoelas area which parish would it have been?

Hope the above makes sense to everyone!

Thanks for your help.

Glamorganshire / Was there such a place as Eaton Town?
« on: Saturday 25 October 08 17:43 BST (UK)  »
Would anyone know if there was such a place as Eaton Town in Swansea? My G.Grandmother Mary Jane Andrew was born in 1874 in Eaton Town, Swansea. The information came from a family bible.

I have tried to find Eaton Town but all I can find is Eaton Road and Eaton Crescent.

I haven't ordered the cert yet so perhaps the info is wrong.

Thanks for any information you can give me

Denbighshire Lookup Requests / Roberts - Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr
« on: Saturday 04 October 08 17:00 BST (UK)  »
Could anyone help me find this family in 1861 census please. I have found them in all the others census.

This is the 51 census info.

Thomas Roberts  48, blacksmith born Pentrevoelas, Denbighshire
Elizabeth wife 44, born Cerrigydrudion, Denbs
john 13  born Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr
Elizabeth  11
Jane  8
Catherine  6
Mary 4
Margaret 2

John was the only child living at home with mum in the 71 census

All children born in Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr.
They all lived at Tan Rhiw in Llanfihangel G.M.

In the 71 census wife Elizabeth states she was born in Pentrefoelas

I cannot find any of the children born to them on the IGI except for an Elinor born in 1836 Llanfihangel G.M. She was on the 41 census. The village was n Meirionethshire then and changed to Denbighshire later I think.

Tried to find a marriage for Thomas Roberts and Elizabeth but nothing in IGI.

Thanks for any help you can give me.
