Essex Lookup Requests / Edward Elsom Family
« on: Friday 01 June 12 19:40 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for information on the Edward Elsom family of Leyton.  The following children were born to Edward and Mary Elsom there:
Mary Ann, 1785
Benny Dixon 1791
Sarah (mine) 1794
Ann Charity 1797
Henry 1798

I am looking for Mary's family name, their marriage information, any other children, and birth and parent information for both Edward and Mary.

Thanks, CLLM

Kent Lookup Requests / Charles Pennell
« on: Thursday 05 April 12 17:40 BST (UK)  »
On Free BMD there is a death registered for Charles Pennell in September 1841 in N. Aylesford, Kent.  I am missing my Charles Pennell but there was Pennell family was around the area of Northfleet and Aylesford in early census.  Could someone check to see if there is more information about this Charles Pennell?

Thank you.

London and Middlesex / marriages in 1814
« on: Sunday 01 January 12 22:18 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking at a marriage record for my ancestor in 1814.  There is no parental consent given.  So, my question is this:  How old did she need to be to be married without parental consent in 1814.  I have found 2 potential families for her name and can eliminate one if there is an age requirement, as one would have been only 14 at the time.

Thanks for any help.

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Sarah Elsom marriage look-ups
« on: Wednesday 20 April 11 01:05 BST (UK)  »
My ancestor Sarah Elsom was married 3 times.  I have the information about the grooms and the dates and places.  I would like it if someone could look up these marriages in the original records and perhaps find information about her parents.  If I could even get the witnesses names it may give me a clue as to who her parents were.

1.  Sarah Elsom married John Levens 17 Dec 1814 at St Luke Old Street,
     Finsbury, London

2.  Sarah Levens married David James 22 Aug 1821 at St Leonards Shoreditch
     London

3.  Sarah James married John Everitt 11 April 1827 at At Giles, Cripplegate,
     London

I am sure this is my ancestor because her daughter's baptim record has her parents as John and Sarah Everitt and her name as Mary Ann Elsom Everitt.

Thanks,  Claire

The Common Room / "spinster" age
« on: Tuesday 02 November 10 20:30 GMT (UK)  »
Today I found the record of the first marriage of my ancestor Sarah Elsom.  I had thought she was born in 1798 and first married in 1814.  But this record said she was a spinster and no one had given permission for her to marry.  At that time--1814--what age was considered "of age" to marry without permission?  Based on this fact I believe I have the wrong parents for her.  That is if a 16 year old woman still needed permission.

Can anybody help me with this detail?

Norfolk Lookup Requests / Hindringham Look-Up please
« on: Monday 27 September 10 18:29 BST (UK)  »
Anne Long married William Everitt in Wells Next the Sea in 1764.  In looking for Anne's family I looked at their children's names.  The first 2 sons are named William (the first died as an infant), the third son is Richard.  If naming patterns were followed Richard would be Anne's father's name.  And the only daughter I found for them is Mary.  There is an Anne Long born 13 July 1739 in Hindringham to Richard and Mary Long.  Since Hindringham and Wells are so close I think this could be the right Anne Long.  I would like to know more about Richard and Mary--their marriage, birth and parent information.  I am finding nothing online.

I am also interested in finding information about William Everitt.  At one time someone told me he was the son of William who was the son of Isaac.  The family was in Wells.  William, I believe, was a shoemaker, as was his son Matthew.

Most of my British ancestors came from the Norfolk area.  I also have a Woodhouse line.  Margaret Woodhouse born about 1781 married Matthew Everitt in 1802 in Wells.  Witness on her marriage record was John Woodhouse.  I'm not sure who her parents are or her birth information.  There is a Margaret Woodhouse born 1781 in Colby to John and Mary.  The date is right according to her death certificate and census.  But Colby is about 25 miles from Wells.

I would appreciate any information on these families.

Unwanted Birth, Marriage, Death Certs A to G / Elsom death cetificates
« on: Wednesday 31 December 08 13:51 GMT (UK)  »

I recently ordered death certificates for John and Mary Ann Elsom.  I took a chance that they were the right ones, as the deaths were registered at St Leonard's Shoreditch where my family was.  Neither was the right one and I have these certificates that are not the people I was looking for.

Is anyone interested in them?  They are for:

John Elsom, 22 months, died 12 or 25 March 1854 (ink blob) at 7 Sarah's
Place, Hoxton New Town, son of John Elsom, green grocer, or

Mary Ann Elsom, 44 years, died 21 March 1856 at Saint Luke's Workhouse,
Hoxton New Town, brace maker, Rachel James present at death.

Please let me know if you are interested in having either of these.  There is no charge--I just want someone to have them that is a descendant or family.

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Shoreditch look-ups
« on: Monday 08 December 08 12:50 GMT (UK)  »
I just found an ancestor, Sarah Elsom (Levens, James) who married John Everitt in 1827.  She died sometime between the birth of her daughter Mary Ann Elsom Everitt in 1831 and 1834.  I believe her parents are John and Mary Elsom.

I have  not found a clue for a death record for Sarah, but they were in Shoreditch, the Hoxton area.  I'm not sure what parish it would be registered in, their other records were in Cripplegate and St Leonard's.  I did find on FreeBMD death listings for John Elsom in the March 1854 and Mary Ann Elsom in March 1856, both in Shoreditch.

I also cannot find John and Mary Ann Elsom in census in 1841 or 1851.  Daughter Sarah was christened in 1814 at Shoreditch.  If I could find that I would have some clue as to where the family was from.

I am also looking for a death record for John Levens sometime between 1818 and 1821.  John Levens and Sarah Elsom married in Shoreditch in 1814.  Sarah Elsom Levens married David James there in 1821.  I would like to find either a death record for John Levens or the marriage record for Sarah Levens who married David James 22 Aug 1821 at Shoreditch.  If she is listed as widow my theory will all pan out.

Any help with this family would be appreciated.

Claire
