I am looking for any information on Harry Landa or Harry Landa Sinclair b. about 1909.
Harry was Jewish, probably came from Leeds and was living in London from about 1933 to 1936 for sure. He may have worked for a large tobacco firm there as a  salesman.

Later he might have been a sergeant in the RAMC and wounded at Dunkirk 1940. (Seems like a quick promotion unless he had prior medic experience).

Not all sure where the Sinclair but comes from.

A lot of this is rumour or conjecture and I have no search resources anymore.

Of course Harry might not have been his given name. Could have been Aaaron or even Herschel.

In the 1911 census my maternal grandfather Stanley Victor Murrill is shown at 21 Little Northampton Street, Clerkenwell with his "wife" Roseina Murrill, a feather curler, b. about 1889, married 3 years and with a child also Roseina born 1909 also at Clerkenwell. There are no Murrill marriages recorded that could refer.
By January 1912 he was legally married at Southwark  to my grandmother Ada Damary so we can safely deduce that there was no marriage previously (no death record for either Roseina). In fact both Roseinas seem to disappear completely.
I no longer subscribe to any of the pay sites so perhaps more and later information may have emerged.

Stanley, by the way, was a bit of a rogue so he would have had no compunction at describing Roseina as his wife when she wasn't.

The name Roseina is not all that common (there are spelling variants) and I did chase down most of the candidates a few years ago and had to eliminate them all, either by age or geography.
If either or both of the Roseinas survived under some other surname they have living descendants today. Can anyone throw fresh light on them?

Like so many of you I dipped my toes in the water and bought a one month trial  sub to the British Newspaper Library. I assumed that this was the result of the digitisation of the old Colindale Newspaper Library which had moved to Leeds (?) and announced that it would no longer make the hard copies available. It may or may not be that and when I accessed the site I found the journals so far were very limited but I found, surprisingly,  a reference to my grandfather in the Leicester Mercury. I had not even the slightest idea that he had ever been there.  When I tried to print this out I found you cannot select part of a page, a single article, and highlight it to print. You can only print the whole page [or double page]. Even on my A3 printer this resulted in miniscule type.

I read elsewhere this same complaint from others and emailed them to say this was a serious fault and that I would not continue. To my utter astonishment they have continued to debit my account through my debit card. I spoke to them today and they maintain that I signed up for a  continuous membership at £9.99 a month. I am taking action to see that they do not operate any future charges and have requested the return of the charges after the one month I agreed to.

I had, a first cousin Shirley O Upton. Her maiden name was Jermy. She married a Bernard Upton at Solihull and I understand that they emigrated - Canada was mentioned to me by another relative who also told me that she was dead but he really had no details.

By now their children would be in their fifties and probably grandchildren aged up to perhaps 25 - that is a lot of relatives that I have somewhere out there. Perhaps one of them is doing some family history research.

Shirley's mother was Millicent [Millie] Williams nee Murrill b. 1911. She had a sister Betty [b. Phipps] who died quite some long time ago but as an adult with her own children.
