Occupation Interests / Fairy Maid of Padstow, Cornwall on Rocks at Cullercoats

Fairy Maid of Padstow, stranded on the Rocks at Cullercoats.
Four Souls on board, Lifeboat launched before 10pm on Monday night.

Crew on board schooner:-
J. Williams, Master.
G. Wiborg, Mate.
J. Chapman, Cook.
J. Olson, Able Seaman
first taken to the Bay Hotel and subsequently the Coastguard conveyed the ship wrecked men to the Tyne Sailors Home at North Shields.

Fairy Maid, small Schooner belonging to Newquay Cornwall, Captain Nicholson. Bound for the Tyne, in ballast.

Vessel built 1876, 90 tons Register and owned by Mr William R. Allen of Watchet, Somerset.

I am working on the branches of the Turner family of South Kirkby, baptised from 1760 to 1783 at South Kirkby, Yorkshire, England. The children of Thomas Turner [and Elizabeth Johnson, who married 1759].

Because Charles Turner, Blacksmith (also Whitesmith) baptised South Kirkby 1770 married Maudland Hood at Selby, Yorkshire, England, in 1794.

John Turner of this Parish, Blacksmith, married Sarah Attee (signed Sarah Atles) of this Parish, Spinster, in the Presence of Georgina Woodcock; Joshua Parkin; Joseph Skelton.

The Will of John Turner of Hemsworth (Borthwick Institute, York) written 1838 (Proved 1839) mentions "my five children".

Also mentioned in the Will are my "daughter Hannah Greenbank" and her husband Johnson Greenbank; my daughter Sarah Wilkinson; my daughter Priscilla Jones; my Grandson William Attee Jones son of the said Priscilla; my Son James Turner and my Son William Turner.

William Beckett be vested with ... to dispose of my property ... of land and houses situate in the Parish of Hemsworth ... .

John Turner's Executor (1839 Death Duty Register at TNA, Kew, also on f m p) indicated Wm Beckitt of S. Kirkby, Pontefract, Yorkshire, was John Turner's Executor,

William Beckitt of Darfield, Farmer, married Ann Attee at Hemsworth in the Presence of Johnson Greenbank and Priscilla Turner.

John Turner died 3rd November 1838, aged 79, at Hemsworth in 1838 (Sub-district Ackworth in the Reg'n District Pontefract). The Death Certificate says Frederick Greenbank, Grandson, was present.

Johnson Greenbank of the Parish of Wakefield, married Hannah Turner, Spinster, in the Presence of Sarah Turner & William Attee.

1826 27th February, at Felkirk, Yorkshire.
William Wilkinson married Sarah Turner [Bishops Transcript, Borthwick], in the Presence of Wm Attee; Mt[?] Turner [Parish Register needs checking], Emelia Wilkinson, Geo Jessop & C.

1828 31st March, at Hemsworth,
John Lindley Jones of Wakefield married Priscilla Turner by Licence, in the Presence of John Green & Ann Jackson.

1830 William Attee Jones appears to be in the Sandal Magna Baptism Register as William Athea Jones, Son of John Lindley & Priscilla Jones, Abode Wakefield, Butcher.

The surviving collection consists of more than 200 specimens, including an extinct species and several believed to have been sent back from Captain Cook’s ill-fated third voyage.

I am interested in Mary Hood and her Sister, Betsy to see if they had any contact with other Hood of Yorks familes.

Betsy Hood / Hodd bapt Scarborough, UK, 1802 parents William Hood & Elizabeth per f m p transcription.
[Mother looks to be Elizabeth Winteringham who married William Hood, Mariner, at Scarborough in 1795, Jane Porritt; John Coxton were present].

The Sister of Betsy Hood was Mary Hood.

A 1798 transcription on f m p has a Mary Hood, baptised Scarborough 2nd Jan

Tried two "Betsy" searches born Scarborough about 1802 in the 1851 Census, turned out to be nee Betsy Ward Davey / Davy (transcribed Dauey on one site) marrying Joseph Gibb and other was nee Elizabeth Holmes marrying Caleb Thompson 1827.

Elizabeth Hood 1859, 1865, 1869, 1871 Scarborough Marriages checked.

1826 St Helens, York Marriage of Elizabeth Hood (born 1802 per Lic) to Jacob Smith, Elizabeth Hood, born Stamford Bridge, Yorks, so not this one.

Can anyone find Betsy Hodd / Hood, bapt Scarborough, Yorkshire, 1802, please?

On the 12th inst, at the Methodist Chapel, at Dumfries, Robert Fawcett, aged 60, (one of the people called Quakers) of Stonechair, near Halifax, to Miss M. Woodall, aged 40, of Scarbro'.

I have posted in case anyone should be looking for Charlotte Ann Thompson, illegitimate and stated to be about 15 years old in 1872.

The inquest on the body of the murdered yeoman, Joseph Wood, of Cropton, was held at Pickering, on Saturday, before Mr. Ness, coroner. John' and William Wood, brothers of the deceased, gave evidence as to the identity of the remains, as did his illegitimate daughter, Charlotte Ann Thompson, aged about 15, ...

Other 1872 newspapers give her Mother's name and occupation.
