Technical Help / 1921 Census - Printing and saving
« on: Thursday 13 January 22 18:40 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I have found my extended family members on the 1921 census but am having no luck printing or saving them.

When i print them they are too dark and I am having no success in making lighter prints. Also I do not know how to save them as there does not appear to be an easy save option.

Grateful for advice on how to overcome these stumbles.

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Which DNA results site?
« on: Friday 24 December 21 12:40 GMT (UK)  »
There is a DNA site where you can upload your DNA results to compare to others but I can not recall its name.

It is not Ancestry, MyHeritage, Living DNA, 23andMe, or FamilyTreeDNA.

Does anyone know what the site is called please?

The Common Room / Ancestry - Disappearing records

I am asking this question as I am convinced I have seen records disappearing from mine and other people's trees on Ancestry and I would be interested in other peoples experiences.

Lanarkshire / Marriage c1865 Hall Burdon and Jane Stirling
« on: Sunday 11 July 21 10:53 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for a marriage probably in Lanarkshire circa 1865.

The marriage is between Hall Burdon (single in 1861) and Jane Stirling. The Burdon name gets horribly mistranscribed so may be easier looking for Jane - but there are more of them!

They have a son born in 1865 at Stonehouse, Lanarkshire (and several more children later).

Grateful for any help trying to find them. I have been looking on Scotlandspeople with no success - but that may be me (they seem to have changed the search options since i last used the site!)

Thank you

« on: Sunday 04 July 21 10:53 BST (UK)  »
Margaret Fryer was born in 1859 at Ingleton, Durham to Thomas Fryer (1824) and his wife Mary Russell (c1823).

I have Margaret on the 81 and 91 censuses at 1 Pattison Street, Darlington and Neasham Hall Farm, Neasham respectively. I am trying to find her on the 61 and 71 censuses ( i do not need her after 91 as i know where she is).

I have found her on familysearch on the 61 census but can not find her on that census on Ancestry. The 61 details are

The Common Room / Find my Past, index
« on: Sunday 13 June 21 12:59 BST (UK)  »
It use to be the case that Find My Past had an index page where you could look up what records they had for a particular place.

For example if you looked up Kent you would get lists of Baptisms, Marriages and Burials for each of the parishes they had. However i do not seem to be able to find it anymore. Can anyone else see it?

Hypothetical example

Sittingbourne    Baptisms    1750-1930
Sittingbourne    Marriages   1800-1930
Sittingbourne    Burials       1780-1920

I would like to buy a new scanner to scan the odd document or two.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a fairly inexpensive easy to use scanner?

Thank you.

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Solitary DNA match
« on: Tuesday 25 August 20 14:35 BST (UK)  »
A few says ago i got a DNA match on MyHeritage with 'J'. The match is 9.1cM on one segment. So far so good but when i checked 'J's matches she only has one.

This is the first time i have come across a match like this and out of curiosity wondered if anyone had something similar.

(The one match 'C' that 'J' has does have matches me on two different chromosomes for a total of 12cM. I do not share a common match with both 'J' and 'C')

Anyone come across something similar?
