Clare / Mellick Co Clare
« on: Tuesday 26 January 10 10:21 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone please tell me if Mellick Co Clare has had a name change. I have googled it and have not been able to find it on any maps. I would be most interested to know what part of Clare its in eg nearest big town.

I have tried different spellings but still no luck.

Thank you

Durham Lookup Requests / Census lookup please
« on: Tuesday 14 October 08 08:27 BST (UK)  »
Can someone please try and find a Mary Howe and family.  She was born in Herrington/Herrington, Durham in 1839, her father was Joseph Howe but I have no details on her mother.

I have Marys marriage cert which states that her father was deceased in 1859 when she married John Bell in the Flag Lane Chapel, Sunderland, and was living in the township of Ford. I believe from searches that the chapel is no longer in existence.

Joseph was a labourer.

I know this will probably be a big ask as I have found many Mary Howes in my searches.  I am assuming that Joseph would have been born c 1819 but not sure where or what county.

Thank you in advance

Lyn

Durham Lookup Requests / Howe family of Herrington, Durham
« on: Monday 01 September 08 10:28 BST (UK)  »
I am hoping someone would be able to find a Mary Howe (and parents, siblings if any etc) born Dec 1839 in Herrington, Durham, England.

She married John Bell in Sunderland Durham October 1859.  I think she died either in 1871 aged 33 or 1877 in Sunderland.

The 1861 census has the family living at Ferryboat Row\, the 1871 Census they were at 6 High Row but can find nothing about her on either the 1841 and 1851 Census.

John was a widower in 1881 Census.

Also where in Durham is Herrington?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi All

I am looking for any information on the O'Neill Family from Cratloe, Co Clare.  James & his wife Bridget nee McMahon.  James born c1785 and Bridget born c1800.

They migrated to Australia with their children Mary c1820 , Catherine c1821,  Bridget c1826,  Patrick c1828 & James c1830 aboard the Adam Lodge in c1840.  There possibly were more children left in Ireland.

Mary married Michael Moloney in 1841, Sydney, NSW, Australia.

Any help would be appreciated.

England / Deaths at Sea
« on: Sunday 27 May 07 08:48 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone please help with finding information on researching deaths at sea without going to Kew because I live in Australia.

My GGGrandfather was listed as a mariner and according to family stories was supposedly lost at sea.  He was George William Roberts born 25 October 1844.  He doesn't appear on the 1861 or 1871 Census that I can find.

I know he died sometime before 1888 but nothing more.    ???

I would appreciate any information or help

Thank  you

Armed Forces / Help with 26th Regiment please
« on: Tuesday 06 March 07 07:28 GMT (UK)  »
I don't know if anyone can help here but how do I find information on someone who was a Sergeant in the 26th Regiment between the years of 1820 to 1851.

He (John Roberts) is listed as being a Sergeant in the Regiment with his oldest  child being born in Corfu in 1836.  I am assuming they were in Malta during that time, and my Great Grandfather listed as being born "on the Barracks" and the birth being in the district of Sunderland East, Co Durham. in 1844

I  have been unable to find out how you look up someone who was serving overseas in the 1841 Census and on the 1851 - 1871 as Chelsea Out Pensioner.

The Common Room / Help needed please.
« on: Thursday 23 November 06 06:41 GMT (UK)  »
My GG Grandmother was Frances nee ???? possibly Firth. She died in Mudgee NSW Australia in August 1864. She had 2 children my GGrandmother Agnes May Baker nee Firth and Mary Ann Long nee Firth.

Agnes married William James Baker in Mudgee on 24 May 1882 and Mary Ann married John Long in Gulgong on 24 December 1881

Their father was a labourer or boundary rider in Mudgee.  It isn't known if his surname was Firth or if Firth was Frances's real name. I am assuming it was her married name though because I can't find any shipping records for a Frances Firth.

After Frances died her 2 daughters were raised by Walter Sherry who was Mayor of Mudgee from 1875-1878 and an alderman prior to 1875. His wife was Amy nee King.

I have googled myself silly and found a little bit of information on the Sherry family but nothing about whether or not the 2 girls actually lived with him and his wife or whether he sponsored them and they were put in an orphanage.  I do know that Walter was a tailor in Mudgee, where his partners name was J Nelthorpe.

Can anyone give me some advice please on where to go to find out any information.  The Mudgee Historical Society have no records apart from his political career.

Someone somewhere who has or had roots in Mudgee must have some information on this family.  I have had some great help from all of you before and I am hoping that someone will be able to help me solve this very frustrating puzzle and fill in some blanks.  I have all the information on the Baker side, all I need is a breakthrough on the Firth side.
