« on: Wednesday 06 March 19 01:00 GMT (UK)  »
Have been meaning to try and work out this puzzle for quite some time and hope someone can help..My mother and her three sisters were placed in an orphanage/boarding school for some reason and I have no idea where or why....so the story is...Heather Agnes McKay 1908-1979, Jean Stewart McKay 1912-1988, Isabella McKay 1913-1938, Annie McKay (my mother) 1915-2002.  Parents Alexander McKay 1876 born Doune Kilmadock died 01 April France and Flanders. Charlotte Hall Born Alva Clackmannanshire 1888 Died 1948 London (she had married again in 1915 in Windsor U.K. I have no idea why my Grandmother never took the children with her ?? my mother could recall them being sent to Windsor as they reached the age of 15 my mother being the last she remembered a train journey from Scotland to Windsor and being sick on the train.  The only other info I have is the name "Craigie" or similar.  I have checked out all orphanages in Scotland etc with no results...can anyone help, this has been a puzzle for quite a number of years and now of course with all of them having died I have no idea..maybe someone could put me on another track..TIA.

The Common Room / Ancestry - information added to my family tree not by me
« on: Thursday 13 September 18 00:53 BST (UK)  »
Am really furious - Checked my family trees today, which I have not done for quite some time, only to find information has been added lord knows from where ?? info on my youngest son's ex wife, info on his present partner, details of my divorce and my former marriage which is wrong (date shown is the same as my eldest sons birth) ... Where on earth do they gather this information...This is not just on one tree but both my maternal and paternal trees.  Has this happened to any one else ?? and what on earth can I do to amend it.  Am just so furious.... Excuse the rant but anyone viewing my trees as access to all misinformation.  :-X

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Wood family
« on: Saturday 04 February 17 04:41 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All - Realize it does not get any easier the further back you go but am having problems with my Wood family.
Benjamin Wood - grandfather x7 born 1685. Cudworth who did he marry and any other children
His son Richard Wood 1710 also at Cudworth had a daughter Mary born 1740 (have info on her she married Thomas Headen and died in 1770 at Royston.

Am assuming that both Benjamin and Richard would have had other children, but I can't find any  ??? have tried every which way..Am no longer a member of Ancestry, too expensive and also do not like their so called "new format".

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can proceed, I know it's a long shot, but all ideas accepted.

All the best..patvp

Lancashire / Lost great grandmother
« on: Monday 16 January 17 01:40 GMT (UK)  »
After a long absence from research, decided to look for my great grandmother  ???

Margaret Downs/Downes, born approx 1848 although this is debatable possibly Ashton under Lyne, although one again on the various census it is either Ashton or Hyde in Cheshire..so am not sure  ???

Fact - Married my g/grandfather in 1868 (Aaron Vaughan) witnesses Thomas and Joseph Vaughan, at St Michaels Parish Church, Ashton Under Lyne, her father's name was given as William Downs, occupation Grocer.

Cannot find anything on IGI (family search) BMD's, or any other place.

Have discontinued my membership with Ancestry (do not like their new format) and it's too damned expensive especially for a pensioner  ;D.

All the children have been accounted for, plus Margaret died in 1895 in Featherstone West Yorkshire, and my g/grandfather went on to have three more wives  ::).

Hope someone can give me a hand with this..time is running out  :o

Best wishes...patvp
