Surrey Lookup Requests / Rotherhithe District 17a page 58 and following
« on: Sunday 18 December 16 23:01 GMT (UK)  »
I know that William Hart and Catherine Leary Hart were living at 14 Prospect place, Rotherhithe in 1880 when their daughter Bertha was born and in 1882 when their son William Henry was born. So they should be there on the 1881 census. Right?

I couldn't find them through creative searching of indices on FamilySearch or Ancestry. I did find 14 Prospect Place on page 57 of Rotherhithe District 17a. There are 2 families at this address at the bottom of the page, but the page does not end with the usual / indicating end of family or // showing the end of the residence. So I expected more occupants on the next page.

However this is is page 57 of 57 on Ancestry. Rotherhithe District 17a just ends. (There are no more 14 Prospect Place entries on the 10 previous pages. I will check the other 47 pages in the district, but I suspect that the file is chopped off.)

On the header page there are additional streets listed after my street, but I have not seen them either.

Does anyone have access to more pages of this census district?

I don’t have access right now to any other UK census records. So for now my wall seems to be thoroughly bricked up.!

Armagh / Wilson McCann married Rebecca (Gracey or Waters)
« on: Sunday 15 November 09 19:44 GMT (UK)  »
Wilson McCann (born Armagh 1808-1810) married Rebecca (born abt 1811) and immigrated to Canada where they began having children by 1831.

The couple were Anglican in Canada.

Wilson McCann and Rebecca had one daughter Elizabeth, 17 MAY 1829  in Seagoe, Armagh, Ireland, according to a IGI member submission. However she doesn't show on the first census of Canada in 1852. She is old enough to be married, I suppose.

According to the death certificate of one daughter, Rebecca's maiden name was Gracey. Another daughter's death certificate gave the name as Waters.

I have no other death, marriage records, or birth or baptismal records that give a maiden name for Rebecca.

Does anyone see a Church of Ireland marriage record for the period up to 1831, or appropriate birth/baptismal records for Wilson, Rebecca or Elizabeth?

If there is nothing definite, does anyone have any leads, or hints of where to look?

Thanks for any help,
Sharon

World War One / Why can't I find my family?
« on: Sunday 08 November 09 21:36 GMT (UK)  »
My Grandfather, James Young Stewart and his brother John Robertson Stewart, as well as my great Uncle Hywel Penry B Walters all served in WW1.

I Have found medal cards, death records for my uncles. (My grandfather was wounded but did not die.) But I cannot find their service records. I have spent hours scouring the Ancestry files, but come up with no service records. (James and John Stewart are not exactly rare names.)

Do the records not exist? Or am I missing something?

Kent / Ockenden family - Sevenoaks - early 1800's
« on: Saturday 07 November 09 11:31 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for the family of George Ockenden, who states consistently through the census records in London, that he was born in 1809-1810 in Sevenoaks, Kent. However, I can find no trace of him there, with my current resources.

What I have found is this:

A couple of possible brothers show up on the census records: In 1841, 32 year old Edward Ockenden and 20 year old Thomas Ockenden live separately in Seven Oaks Kent.  In 1851, Edward is 38 and Thomas is 34, if I have found the same men.

An Edward Ockenden was baptized in Sevenoaks Mar 24 1814 parents: John and Phoebe Ockenden.

The IGI has some Sevenoaks activity for Ockendens: The marriage of Edward Ockenden and Sarah Heath 05 APR 1775 and a number of females born to Edward and Sarah (and one to Henry and Mary) between 1781 & 1789. It looks as though the records they have transcribed contain only females.

John Ockenden and Phoebe Ellis were married 05 Jun 1809 in nearby Chelsfield, Kent and daughter Susan was baptised April 1, 1810 in Bromley.

How do I go about getting birth / baptism records in Sevenoaks, particularly for George,  in the early 1800's?

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Francis Ockenden Hammersmith 1858
« on: Thursday 29 October 09 11:24 GMT (UK)  »
Please help me find Francis Edward Ockenden born in Hammersmith about 1858.

I have found him with his first wife, Fanny Livermore in Fulham in 1881 and with his children and his in-laws in 1891. He married Fanny before Jun 30 1880, and married Susan Ford before Sep 30, 1891. (I will send for marriage records.)

I cannot find him on the FreeBMD indexes for a birth anywhere in the years around 1858. There is one Francis, in Poplar, but they are both recorded in 1881. I have searched using wildcards for names both Oc*n and Coc*n with first name Fran* and with no first name.

I also cannot find him on any census before 1881.

He is in the indexes for 1901 and 1911, but I don't have access to these.

Can anyone help me find his parents &/or him on other censuses?

thanks
Sharon

I am searching for an ancestor, Mary Peterkin who was born in Scotland abt 1845. According to her marriage certificate, (Toronto, Canada 1870) she was the daughter of John & Anne Peterkin.

Does anyone see her on a 1851 or 1861 census index?

One family I am trying to rule in or out is the family of John Peterkin & Ann Watt who married in 1834 in both Kintore & Chapel of Garioch, Aberdeen and had at least 4 children (John, Henrietta, Thomas,  & Margaret) in Mortlach, Banffshire where I found them on the 1841 census via FREECEN.

I understand that Ann Peterkin is alive, age 70, widowed in 1881, living with son? James Peterkin and grandson John Macdonald, both born 1861. John her husband may have died around 1861-1862.

Carmarthenshire Completed Requests / Beynon: Benjamin & Margaret, Llanboidy 1861
« on: Friday 23 November 07 14:02 GMT (UK)  »
I am searching for a pair of ancestors.

I have Benjamin Beynon, born about 1796 and his wife Margaret Salmon, born about 1799 on the Llanboidy census records for 1841 (at Bwlchmelyn) and 1851 (at Penquarry).

Before I send for any of the possible death records in the area, I would like to narrow down when they were last alive.

I have not found either of them in the area in 1861. Can anyone else find then for me. Their son Enoch is in Llangan in 1861, but they are not with him.
