Graveyards and Gravestones / Angels on Gravestones
« on: Friday 16 March 18 20:21 GMT (UK)  »

I have been doing a little project photographing gravestones and am interested in the Angels actions, where I live in Manchester they seem quite limited their favourite themes are as follows..

1. Putting a wreath on a cross
2. Reading a scroll
3. Holding an arm up to heaven
4. Holding flowers
5. Praying

Does anyone have any ideas on any symbolism of the angels ?

Sarah :)

I have been asked for help a couple of times this week on how to copy and paste to other threads on RootsChat, so here is some help for others who maybe wondering too.

If you are creating a link from a page on RootsChat look up to your tool bar, this will start with "" Place your cursor at the end of the address and with your mouse you drag along the address right to left whilst holding the left button down (on the mouse) this will highlight the address. Next click with the right button of your mouse and it will open up a box with some options select "copy". In your new post you can then use your mouse to put the cursor into the message, use the right button of your mouse to click in the post and this will then give you some options, one being "Paste" when you select paste it will then copy the link into the message. da da hopefully it should then appear

Hello Curtis,

We received you note about your two profiles, I can merge your two profiles it is better to merge your new posts into your old profile and change the email address this will then save your email notifications on older topics.

Berkshire / Frederick (joseph) Rogers

I am posting this message of behalf of a new user Roystonrogers

In 1872 the above named person appeared in Liverpool and was the father of a son called Frederick Arthur he set up 2 tailors shops in Liverpool changing to better shops later. He then dies on the 15th October 1886 of pneumonia and was buried on the 20th of October
West Derby Cemetery CofE Entry 1449 Single section 8 Grave 1404 Public grave. I am going to contact the Council to see if there is a head stone and any other detail they know and is it still there.
Other than the census entry of 1881 I really don't know much that I can prove.

The census said he was 54 yet he must have been 61 which made him 25 years older than his wife who was I think born 1845 and he was born 1819-20
His wife was called Sarah Ann nee Sharp she too was a tailoress and if I have her tree right I can go back to 1780.
She said in that census to be born Stock cross Berkshire and he said Newbury Berkshire.

I have death certificate for him which confirms the above.

Now here is the strange bit I have a birth of a Joseph Rogers Born to William and Ann at All Saints East Lockinge Berkshire on the 25/10/1819 Is that him most of his life it shows as Frederick yet my G Father Marriage Certificate says Joseph deceased ?
I can't find a Marriage or a Will in 1886 but am still to check 1887

Could I ask for advise please.
I have Visited Reading Records office and Tried to look for him being born in 1827 and 1819-20 but nothing for Frederick it was only later I looked for George and Joseph as these are popular names in our Family.
As Sarah Ann and Helen are for the Girls.
Please Please help as I have heard you have helped others.
