Scotland Resources / Monumental Inscriptions - East Lothian
« on: Tuesday 28 August 18 15:57 BST (UK)  »
I've posted this request more specifically on the East Lothian board, but posting here on the off chance it will be noticed by someone that doesn't necessarily read the East Lothian board.

I'm hoping someone can do a look up for me in the East Lothian MIs for the name Sives(various spellings).

The link to my other post is: http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=799380.0

Thanks
Dave

East Lothian (Haddingtonshire) / Monumental Inscriptions
« on: Tuesday 28 August 18 15:48 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
Does anyone have access to the M.I.s for East Lothian?  Particularly Athelstaneford, Haddington and North Berwick churches and graveyards?

I'm looking for any inscriptions for the name Sives (various alternative spellings).

I looked through the MIs previously but have lost my records.

I've also posted this request on the main Scotland Resources board here: http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=799381.msg6568139#msg6568139

Lanarkshire / FORREST family - DNA research
« on: Sunday 12 August 18 00:20 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Are there any descendants of the Forrest families from Lanarkshire on here that have undertaken a DNA test through Ancestry, FTDNA or My Heritage?

I'd like to make contact to share and compare results / tree.

I have my results on all 3 sites mentioned, plus Gedmatch.  (Gedmatch number T037587)

Dave

PS - If you are a direct male Forrest descendant with documented evidence of your Forrest heritage in Scotland I might be able to arrange a FREE YDNA test (this isn't the same as the standard test you get from Ancestry and such).

Scotland / FORREST surname in Scotland
« on: Wednesday 11 April 18 22:39 BST (UK)  »
Unsure whether I've mentioned this before.

I have a small group page on Facebook relating to Forrests in Scotland... (nearly 200 of us).
Not everyone in the group is related to me, but we've managed to make quite a number of connections through it, and helped members trace their Forrest lineage further back.

I'm happy to add anyone descended from Forrests with ancestry in Scotland.

Just send an invite via the FB page - https://www.facebook.com/groups/forrests.in.scotland/

Scotland / "withdrawn" on a marriage / banns OPR - what does it mean?
« on: Tuesday 20 February 18 01:46 GMT (UK)  »
First time I've ever seen this. "(withdrawn)"
Any ideas what it means in this instance?
I know the couple had several children after the date of this entry (1836 in Glasgow), so it doesn't appear they decided not to marry.

I thought perhaps it applied to the previous entry, but the entire document is pretty much spaced out between entries.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / help with testements? from 1650s
« on: Friday 05 January 18 16:04 GMT (UK)  »
Is anyone willing to decipher 2 documents (a few paragraphs from Scottish testaments) that I have from the 1650s?

I obtained them from ScotlandsPeople but am unable to decipher any more than a few obvious words and names.

One is made harder because the writing on the reverse page is showing through.

Being from SP, am I allowed to post them on this forum?

I attach a screenshot of part of one of them as an example.

Thanks,

Dave

World War One / Pointers needed to help find Pte G Fortune, Royal Scots
« on: Wednesday 22 June 16 04:12 BST (UK)  »
Looking for help please.

Trying to identify a family member.

All I know, from an old 'autograph' book (bottom right of image) is:
Pte G Fortune
9th Bn. (Highlanders)
The Royal Scots
He was alive and serving in March 1917.

Possibly (probably) from Lothian.

I've got full access to Ancestry.com but can't seem to find the right person.

Can anyone assist?

Dave
