Somerset Lookup Requests / Charles Burston b.1878
« on: Thursday 06 July 23 13:27 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I'm trying to help my aunty with a dead end on the Burstons' from Somerset
We have Charles Burston born 1878 Wellington Somerset, in the workhouse in 1881 and 1891 censues and with wife and family on the censuses after that.
I've found what i believe to be his birth registration, no MMN listed and have drawn a blank with christening records. Also had no luck with bastardy bonds, has anyone else any ideas of how to trace his parents other than maybe getting his mother's name from the suspected birth certificate?
Thanks 😊

Yorkshire (North Riding) Lookup Requests / Mystery - Rook/e/es family
« on: Saturday 04 June 22 19:34 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I'm at a dead end with a Jane Rook/e/es who married John Scales 7.2.1796 Pickering.
Other trees have her as the daughter of William and Ann Rooke née Stansfield of Royds Hall but I've found the christening of a Jane Rooke on familysearch 1776, also of a Richard Rooke 1767,  William 1769 and Jane 1772  to parents William and Ann Rook, all in Pickering, but found nothing else about this Pickering William and Ann.
Anything other info or help would be much appreciated. The 1776 christening fits with her age on the 1841 census with husband John Scales (the Scales family all seem to be Stone Masons) the Rook/Rooke name crops up often through the descendants
Thanks for any assistance
Catherine :-)

Immigrants & Emigrants - General / Walter Harris b.1899 US or UK?
« on: Tuesday 01 September 20 19:41 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I'm doing my sisters mother in laws birth parents tree and have got lost with her maternal grandad.
Walter Harris married in 1922 in UK to Florence M Reed. They are in Nottinghamshire in 1939, then I can see there are American records for them but dont have access to them. I have found Florence in earlier censuses and records in UK, but nothing for Walter so I dont know whether he is from the UK and went to the US post 1939 or whether he came from the US, got married stayed a while and then returned to the US after 1939.
Can anyone find him anywhere else please?
Thankyou  :)

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) Lookup Requests / Savage family
« on: Thursday 06 August 20 11:23 BST (UK)  »
I'm currently working on my brother in laws tree and am getting in a muddle with the Savage family from Whitgift/Howden Yorkshire. I have a George Vaux Hill Savage, born 1822 mother Elizabeth Savage (father unknown as mother marries in 1826 to Francis Hill and then 1840 to Richard Young, there is a Vaux family in Whitgift on the censuses so maybe one of those is the dad), and I believe her parents are James Savage and Mary Scholfield/Schofield, but there appears to be 2 James Savages as I ve found one lot of christenings in Whitgift and more in Howden around the same time, so I'm wondering whether they are the same family or 2 different James, maybe a fresh pair of eyes will spot something I'm missing?? Thankyou for any assistance

Nottinghamshire / Jacques/Jaques
« on: Monday 03 February 20 16:38 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I'm wondering if new eyes can help me get any further with the parents of my 5 x great grandmother.

My 5x great grandma is called Elizabeth Jacques and married my 5x great grandad William Woodward in Mattersey Notts in 1823. I have them in the censuses, and in 1871 there is an Elizabeth Jacques living with them, transcribed as age 80 but I read it as 89 which makes more sense if daughter Elizabeth was born 1800-1803. Mother Elizabeth is listed as being born in SA and daughter is listed on various censuses as being born in SA or Woolwich.
On familysearch I found a christening of an Elizabeth "Jacks" to parents Charles and Elizabeth in 1800, Chaplaincy to British Forces Cape of Good Hope SA.
Can anyone find any more information on this couple and other possible children or any other sightings of the 89 year old  Elizabeth Jacques in Mattersey in the 1871 census
Thankyou

Europe / Brickwall - Gdansk/Danzig - Michailowski or Menke
« on: Wednesday 15 August 12 19:56 BST (UK)  »
Looking for birth of Erica Olga J Michailowski or Menke (Menke could be the surname of her first husband) According to her death in 2002 she was born 27th May 1919.

Her family believe she was born in Gdansk/Danzig, is there anyway I can find her birth or possibly her first marriage - her first or second marriage was in Paris? Any help would be appreciated, not done European research before.

Thanks x
