Canada Lookup Request / Kenneth George Brown
« on: Friday 12 January 24 16:16 GMT (UK)  »
I'm trying to help a cousin locate information on her dad.

Kenneth George Brown was born 4/8/1929 in Hampstead, London to Stanley & Priscilla Lily (Lilian)
He went to Australia a couple of times but came back to the UK.

On 7/3/1956 he went to Canada, arriving at New Brunswick in April of 1956. A son was born in July 1956 but Kenneth absconded straight after the birth. No trace can be found of him after this date.

There are trees on Ancestry who have a D.O.D. for him in England but the birth information doesn't match & I think its wrong.

We have found documents for the years 1929 to 1956 but nothing after.
Could anyone point me in the right direction please? I've no idea about Canada records or where to start.

Thanks in advance to any helpers/

Europe / Meinen family, Bern Switzerland
« on: Friday 31 January 20 21:31 GMT (UK)  »
I have a Jules/Julius Christian Meinen who says he was born in Bern about 1846.

On his marriage in 1872 he lists his father as Jules Christian Meinen too. (This has been transcribed as Meiner)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Best wishes

Lancashire / Schools in Gorton/Openshaw 1910
« on: Wednesday 29 August 18 21:40 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

I'm trying to find what schools would have been open around 1910 in Gorton and Openshaw and if any admission logs still survive. If anyone knows where these would be stored too, it would be extremely helpful.
Thank you, Regards

World War Two / WW2 records
« on: Sunday 21 January 18 13:20 GMT (UK)  »
I'm just about to apply for my maternal grandads (& adopted dad) army records.
I am fortunate enough to have his army number and unit.

My friend would love to apply for her grandads records too but hasn't got a clue what unit he was in, never mind army number. Is there any way she could find out & still apply?

Best wishes

US Completed Requests / California Wills
« on: Sunday 24 September 17 17:14 BST (UK)  »
I'm looking for a will of a person who died 1951 in California. At the minute I don't know where she died or how to look for the will.

Does anybody know how/where to find the information? Thanks in advance.

Could anyone help with dating these photos. I know who the woman is in pic 4. She (Bella) lived 1884 to 1959. These others are her relatives but I don't know if they're siblings or parents.

Thank you in advance

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Mirfield
« on: Saturday 14 February 15 11:24 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone know of any links for Mirfield?

I have a bit of a dilema.
1861 census Mirfiled:-
Charlotte Oates 64
Jackson Oates 16
Henry Oates 13
Abraham Jackson 44

Same family 1851 census still in Mirfield
Charlotte Drake 53
Jackson Drake 6
Henry Drake 3
Abraham Jackson 34

I have the marriage details for both children. Jackson states his father is Abraham Jackson and Henry puts his mother in the fathers bit (never seen that before).

My problem is why the name change? I cannot find a marriage and both boys christenings are in the name Oates?

I'm puzzled, any ideas?
Thank you in advance to anyone who is willing to help.
Best wishes

United States of America / How to apply for a will?
« on: Monday 19 January 15 18:29 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone know how to apply for a will from the UK?

Adeline Wright Kynaston died 1951 in Los Angeles, California and left an estate to be shared by our family. I would like to apply for a copy of the will but haven't tried to get records from the USA before.
Thanks in advance
Pauline
