US Lookup Requests / James Dougherty born NYC 1759
« on: Saturday 10 September 16 03:55 BST (UK)  »
I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me find more info
on James Doughtery born 9 Nov 1759, NYC, USA...he was christened
18 Nov 1759 at the Trinity Parish Church, all we know is that his parents
were named Neal and Mary (not sure of her maiden name) i'd like to know
if any possible record might be able to be found to show where his
parents were from (haven't thus far been able to find a marriage
record, and there don't appear to be any other children born in the
USA).

any help would be most appreciated.

regards
Richard

England / George Alder Stratford
« on: Tuesday 25 August 15 12:14 BST (UK)  »
George Alder Stratford, we know he married 2 times....the first 2 marriages in Bristol, Gloucestershire, 1st to Sarah Fisher in 1829 (she died somewhere around 1833), 2nd to Sarah Merrett in 1834 (she died somewhere around 1836) - presumably both wives died in Bristol.

the 3rd marriage to Mary Ann Hollingshead (she is listed as Hollingsworth on the marriage record, an error) in Sep 1841, less than 2 weeks later they were on a ship bound for Wellington, New Zealand.

I need some help in trying to find George on the 1841 census and also a birth or baptism - all we know is that one of the marriages his father John Stratford is listed as a "Man Cook". we think George was born sometime around 1807 (although records in NZ say 1807 or 1809). the unusual middle name, was this a mother or grandmothers maiden name?

Any help would be more than appreciated by descendants in both New Zealand and the USA.

cheers
Richard

Somerset / Stacey - 1851 Census/Minehead
« on: Tuesday 25 August 15 11:52 BST (UK)  »
Hi folks,

I'm trying to find William Stacey and his wife Sarah (nee we think, Baker) on the 1851 census without luck, in 1841 they were living in Church Street, Minehead

their children also unaccounted for in 1851 (there were others in 1841 but they were married and/or accounted for) were:

Sarah - christened 1830
Elizabeth - christened 1834
Charlotte - christened 1836
Mary - christened 1836
John - christened 1842
(all christenings in Minehead)

I'm hoping the 1851 census maybe more clear as to where the mother Sarah was born so i can pinpoint who she was before marriage :)

any help would be most appreciated :)

cheers

Europe / Torstensen/Iversen/Andersen - Norway
« on: Tuesday 25 August 15 04:17 BST (UK)  »
Johanne Torstensen was born 31 Dec 1822, Sandefjord, Vestford, Norway in 1849 she married Anders Iversen (he was a fisherman who went missing around 1866).

she was last seen as Johanne Iversen on the 1910 census with her son Søren Andersen and family, word is that she died sometime around 1912 at the ripe old age of 90 (not an uncommon milestone with regards her descendents :)

i'm also trying to find deaths for 3 of her 7 children (the other 4 have been accounted for in Norway, USA and New Zealand):

Iver Thorvald Andersen born 22 Mar 1849, Langestrand, Larvik, Vestfold, Norway (last seen in Kristiania in 1910)

Søren Andersen born 2 Mar 1852, Langestrand, Larvik, Vestfold, Norway (last seen in Larvik in 1910)

Anne Kirstine Andersen born 4 Jul 1858, Langestrand, Larvik, Vestfold, Norway (last seen in a picture taken in 1873)

can anybody help me with regards to finding Johanne's (or her childrens) death/s? it would be most appreciated.

cheers
Richard

Aberdeenshire / John Anderson & Agnes Anderson - Fraserburgh
« on: Wednesday 04 September 13 01:27 BST (UK)  »
John Anderson (sometimes referred to as "Benty") born 12 Mar 1767 was the son of Alexander Anderson (1727-1790) and Helen Ellis (1729-?), he married his cousin Agnes Anderson abt 1795, she born 20 Jan 1779, daughter of Samuel Anderson (1737-1829) and Margaret Farquhar (1736-1821)

....unfortunately after the 1851 census i lose them in Fraserburgh where John is listed as a pauper in Links Of Philorth, Agnes seems to have died sometimes between 1841-1851.

Any help in finding out what happened to them would be most appreciated.

Perthshire / Jane McKay Or Penny (Jailbird)
« on: Tuesday 03 September 13 06:46 BST (UK)  »
On 1881 Scotland Census there is a Jane McKay Or Penny aged 47 who is a prisoner at the General Prison for Scotland. Her occupation is listed as Vagrant. I was wondering if there was any way of finding out why she was locked up and i can't seem to find her on the 1871 census or the 1891 so i am assuming perhaps she died behind bars?

Jane McKay was actually the daughter of Andrew McKay and his first wife Rachel Stewart and was a ggg-aunt of mine.

Any help would be most appreciated :)

London and Middlesex / Wedlake - 1841 Census Request
« on: Sunday 18 November 07 00:41 GMT (UK)  »
I was wondering if someone would be kind enough to help me with one of my major headaches, my gggg-grandmother

1841 British Census:
Mary Anne (Marianne) Wedlake -  abt 1833 - b: Middlesex
(parents are possibly John Wedlake & Mary Ann (Maria) Oliver, i found a christening of 1835 that is in the correct timeframe....this appears to not be that common a surname)

*IGI sometimes spells this surname as Widlake*

*Mary Anne (Marianne) Wedlake went to Melbourne, Australia and married an Englishman there named George Smith in 1852 and had 4 children they then came out to NZ, where it seems they had at least another son*

cheers
Richard
