Greetings, Rootschatters.
I have here two school photographs to which I am looking to assign some sort of dates.
The first is a standard school group with the name of a photographer, C. Harris of Dover. It is obviously an old photograph, certainly pre-1900, and it has been suggested that this is from 1880-84, but I would prefer some confirmation that this may be true (or otherwise).
The second is, I am afraid, a very poor and blurry photograph of children outside a school, one of those instances where it is what it is, and better, perhaps, to have a poor picture than none at all. However, despite its drawbacks, I am hoping that there is enough definition to the clothing to get some form of date
Thank you for any help on this,
Scobie

Hello again Rootschatters.
Here is a section from another old photograph which I am trying to date. Sometime about the beginning of the 20th century, but I hope that perhaps one of you can pin it down a bit tighter than that. Many thanks,
from Scobie

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / The Brown family
« on: Friday 05 April 19 16:38 BST (UK)  »
Hi Rootschatters.
I know that this is a photo of the Brown family, but can anyone put some sort of date to it? I need this to try to work out which of their children are shown here. As I am poor at putting ages to people in old photos, some suggestion as to the ages of the individuals shown would also help.
Many thanks for any help at all,
Regards, Scobie

World War One / Hamstreet casualties
« on: Friday 30 November 18 15:16 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Rootschatters.
Can someone please help?
A friend has requested help regarding the casualties connected to Hamstreet (in the parish of Orlestone) in Kent. Two names have come up about which I can find no information. One is Edward William John Foster, died 24th April 1918, and mentioned on the Kentfallen website, and the other is C. Paine (nothing else known). Basically, I am looking to confirm or deny that either of these two had some village or parish connection.
Many thanks,
Scobie

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Women's Group Date and Organisation?
« on: Tuesday 18 September 18 17:29 BST (UK)  »
Hello Rootschatters.
Attached is a photograph of a group of unknown women. I have no idea of the date, but I am hoping that their clothing will give an indication to someone, with more knowledge of these things than I possess, who can help in this respect. Also, judging by the unusual headgear of many, do they belong to some form of organisation (possibly something like the Mother’s Union)? Or is it just a form of dress that was normal for the time?
Any ideas or comments on this photo would be much appreciated.
Many thanks for looking,
Scobie

Hello again Rootschatters.
I have another two local photographs that I am trying to date. Judging by the vehicles shown, my estimate is between 1930 and 1960, by my hope is that someone with a superior knowledge of older cars can pin the dates a bit tighter than that. Any opinions gratefully received.
Many thanks, from Scobie.

Hello again Rootschatters.
I have another photograph that I am trying to date, the only positive guide being the children’s clothing shown. The photo is not as clear as I would have liked because of the amount this section had to be enlarged. I do know that it has to be before 1937, as two memorial beech trees, now very large, were planted that year and would have appeared in this photograph.
Many thanks, from Scobie.

Hello Rootschatters.
I am trying to date the attached photo. I guess at Edwardian, but it might be earlier. It definitely falls between 1880 and 1920 when the name of Charles Cork appeared above the local shop (cropped out). Beyond that, I have only the children's clothing, and possibly the quality of the photograph, to go by. Any ideas or opinions are welcome.
Many thanks, from Scobie

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Car and date
« on: Friday 23 February 18 16:49 GMT (UK)  »
Hello Rootschatters.
I am hoping that someone out there is an expert on old cars, as I am trying to date a photograph from the models caught on camera. The area itself has changed little over the years, so identifying these vehicles is my best chance of pinning a date to this picture.
Many thanks,
Scobie
